By the look of the new rankings the only thing you can conclude from them is you have to be kidding me. I guess winning will move you down in the rankings for two consecutive weeks, all the while those ahead keep losing.

First of all, which rankings are you talking about, and which teams are you talking about

Why do the SCISA rankings only have the top 5 and the the others classifications have 10 to 15 teams listed?

To be honest, not enough quality teams to rank a top 10

We don't use the BCS system so everyone will get a chance to prove how good they are on the field. Rankings don't mean much, but I'm guessing who you have beat is more important than just your record.

Not totally true. For example, if you are a new coach at a school and your team traditionally isnt ranked and you get them ranked it could cause a growth in soccer at that school. Any time you can grow the sport its relevant in my opinion.

Seconded on Eudy's point. You'd be amazed at what confidence in a mere ranking can do for a program full of impressionable young boys/girls.

Kids I've been around always work harder for goals, than for self-satisfaction.

Ditto what Will said.

When I was asst coach @ Jasper county (now Ridgeland & Hardeeville) in 06, we were ranked for a bit. Amazing how that boosted our player's confidence and showed that the program was doing something good. Even if it was just for about two weeks, it did a lot for the kids' confidence and believing in the program's direction

Didn't say rankings aren't fun, discussable, etc. Said irrelevant. Which is to say, as no person here has seen all the teams, or even video of all the teams, rankings are wildly subjective and often unrealistic/inaccurate.
Even more so for "national" rankings.
