I agree that the field at The Cage is small, but "exceptionally small" I contest. It's 56 2/3 yards wide by 116 in length. VERY comparable to many HS fields. The difference is largely optical -- four-lane track as opposed to 8 and the field is stretched to the drains, as opposed to having a field capable of being wider and shrunk to fit a more football (America) sized field. Also, you figure in school buildings and the stadium and it "looks" smaller, but is not much off many of the fields in the Columbia area. As for Granby, the field is 117x62, and it's maxed out in width. We would love to rip the track out and stretch the field from fence to fence, but ... Hope to see you at The Cage the next four days! The width shall not be more than 80 yards (73.15M) nor less than 65 yards (59.44m) and the length shall not be more than 120 yards (109.72m) nor less than 110 yards (100.58m); however, fields of less than minimal dimensions may be used by prior written mutual consent of the competing institutions. The optimum size is 75 yards (68.58m) by 120 yards (109.73m)." With a width of less than 57', it appears there is an advantage to a team that uses the Long Throw In as an Offensive Weapon......can anyone think of such a team?

The Chief brace Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 855 Fort Mill	Ok so I guess that settles it anything less than 65 yards would have to be by your quote an exception and agreed to by "written mutal consent" thus making the cage an "exceptionally" small field. 56 2/3 would be 8 1/3 below min and 18 1/3 below optimum. With a little higher math this mean the cage is only about 3/4's the width of the "optimum size". Anyone know what they avg size field used by most team in SC? What about the one used for the State Championships?

You are right, the cramped space around it does make it seem smaller than it is. But I think your field is better than Spring Valley's field that is almost square! If you are going to argue a point, at least get factual information to back up your side.....
