This sounds an awful lot like lobbying to me, which reeks of self interest by participating HS coaches. Do what's right for the kids and not whats best for your school team. I think folks are deluding themselves if they really think that deep down they are doing anything other that fighting to preserve something that matters to them.

If you say you only want what's best for the player, I have news for you......you aren't their parent!!! Don't usurp their responsibility to protect their child's best interest. USSF has made a decision on what they think the best approach is to develop the top 1% of soccer players. Parents and kids have a choice. Let them make it.

Up here in YC we have several kids playing in NC Academies and this has meant they already aren't playing HS. The local coach that I know .....has NEVER criticized their choice or tried to second guess them. His take is, if its whats best for the kids, good luck to them. He'll coach the kids he has.

Which is the right approach. More HS coaches could and should learn from him.
