I think I know the answer to this.....but am not positive. Is there a state rule that addresses the issue of kids playing more than 1 sport in the same season? Can kids play mutiple school sports within the same season?

I know we've had issues in the past with winter sport athletes not being able to participate in soccer until their season is done. Wasn't sure if that was state or school related.

There is no limitation on the number of HS sports an athlete can play in one season. We currently have a number athletes running track and playing soccer simultaneously. I am not saying that is a good idea.

So there's not a State rule prohibiting it. Rather, a somewhat common school by school practice of doing so? Does that about sum it up?

Yes. Some coaches feel there sport is more important and won't let you compete in another at the same time cause they might miss a practice. Then you end up making both coaches mad. I would think it would be great to have a soccer player also running track to stay in shape. Now you can't play baseball and soccer or lacrosse and soccer because of overlapping games. I see most kids going from football to basketball tosoccer or baseball. Thats fine at our school but you can't start one till the other is finished.

I do not think it is wise to play two sports at once. Young bodies need rest. There is much scientific research to support this. We have a higher than normal injury rate among those who do.
