I dont know how good the academic magnet players are, and i doubt academic magnet, or any team in the state pays for players to get on, but i just think that the number one and two teams in the state should have more players on the roster.
and lvrpul your just mad that no eastside players didnt make it

I should have clarified-paid for advertising- hpwever it is a little suspect when perennial powers Clinton, Wren and some others put players on this team and Mann has only one. Like i said All State used to be the best players period regardless of team. Its not about getting an equal number of players from each team - just the best. Kind of like when Riverside dominated basketball their starting five was the all state team and was picked by all of the coaches in 3A. And Alpha Dog I'm not mad but when a school throttles the 4A champ and doesnt get a mention but Clinton does it boggles the mind

Coach, you may have noticed I said that HSSR can be advertorial, but I DON'T have a problem with the list. I supposed I could, but I don't.
In my opinion, however, basing selections on which teams won championships necessarily degrades the larger "body of work." Yes, good teams have good players. But no, being on a good team does NOT necessarily make you an all-state player.
Because of the size of the state, as opposed to the small editorial staff at HSSR, mistakes will be made. No big deal.

When it comes to soccer, the High School Sports Report has been irrelevant for a long time. Come to think of it that rag is a dinosaur in today's world.

I dont watch a lot of high school soccer, being strictly a club coach, so i cant assume to know where a lot of the players from club play their high school soccer.
As Coach Hamil stated, the High School Sports Report was THE outlet for high school soccer in the '90s. I havent followed if much recently, so i cant know for sure how their involvment relates.
That being said, players selected for a newspaper team may or may not be the most deserving players. Just to select an All State team, i think there should be 11 players on that team. Just think it fits the mold of a team.....
HSSR used to have a Top-50 listing each year. Maybe they can come back with that to appease the masses.

In a sense, HSSR has been appeasing the masses for years.

lvrpul, i understand this is a topic on the all-state team, but after talking to some of the parents from the mann team it was anything but a "throttle" earlier this season, do you honestly think eastside would beat J.L Mann today if they played?

I beg to differ-Mann was never in the game and had it not been for some phenomenal goalie work by Mann goalie it could have been much worse than 3-1. Mann threatened only one time and scored and they never threatened again. Mann will get its chance again next year and I feel the result will be the same- Mann is a great 4A team but when they stepped out of their division they lost or tied- lost to Eastside and Christ Church and tied St. Joes- that is a fact that can't be argued!

There are two ways to think about all star selections.

One approach is to try to pick the best two dozen players regardless. So a region ODP guy stuck on a midlevel HS team might make the team but you would not necessarily have a representation of the season successes.

Another way is to make up the team with players who contributed to the success their program achieved. You see players from all four levels because each level has successes.

I don't think you can just load up an all star team with players from the 4A school every one thought should have won. No purpose (and no success).
