the strength of the good ole USA in every aspect of our collective being has always been to draw its greatest success from its diversity & ability to come together for the greater good. youth $occer has ignored diversity for $ome reason.
& oh btw, lets compare per capita yth spending to jamaica.

i agree, soccer is the most fickle of sports, you can dominate possession, corners & sog & still lose on one bad or good called set play.
but we can't even qualify for the olympics?really?
usa yth soccer is kentucky basketball 1966, time to wake up & somehow take advantage of all our assets

For the record:
1) I agree on diversity. Now go sell soccer over sports where guys get FULL scholarships, major payoffs under the table, and potential 7-figure ROOKIE contracts.
2) I think we MAY be improving our model -- and hopefully addressing diversity -- with a gradual move toward fully funded academies.
3) I, too, was POed about failure to qualify for the Olympics. Though I'm thinking we weren't the only ones.
4) I understand that sport can be fickle.

Finally, I will say this. At this point in time, MLB has one of its lowest percentages of African-American participation at any time since the sport was fully integrated. Why? Lack of facilities/opportunity in urban areas? Check. Lack of training/competitive opportunities for African-American kids? Check. Other (preferred) opportunities? Major check!
MLB, with ALL of its resources, would like to address this issue. Has it succeeded? Not really.

As to Point 3 above, off the top of my head, AND I MAY BE WRONG, I'm thinking that Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy and Argentina weren't in the field. But I may be wrong.
