3/13 @ TL Hanna High School

Hanna 0:1 Wren

Boy, we wasted a lot of opportunities. I have a question for any refs reading this board (or even coaches if you want to pipe in}. Wren's goal was a PK awarded because the ref said that my defender was holding the jersey of his man in the box on a corner kick BEFORE the ball was played in. Now my experience is that the ref would warn the player but this guy went straight for the penalty. What do y'all think? By the way it happened on the other end as well but the other ref did not make that same call which of course prompted me to earn a yellow card.

Of course in the end it is our own fault for not putting one in the nets, but I was just curious what others thought.

You neglected to mention that Hanna was also awarded a dubious PK, but Wren's keeper made the save. Wren played w/o two senior starters, and still held their own against a good Hanna team on a cold night.

"A penalty kick is awarded if any of the above ten offences is committed by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball, provided it is in play. "

As the ball was not in play, no PK should have been awarded. Bad call.

I didn't mention it out of respect for my player that missed the PK. He feels horrible even though I thought the keeper just made a great save on a pretty good kick.

And dubious? At least players hit the ground on that play. On your PK all the players were looking around to see what the heck he was talking about.

That would be absolutely correct. If the incident occured before the ball was kicked and moved, it would be misconduct, restart with the corner kick and probably a caution for USB to the offender.

If the incident occured after the ball was kicked and moved, it would be a foul, restart with the PK (since the foul occured in the box) and you still could have a caution to the offender.
