Two diving saves in an overtime penalty shootout by Northwestern senior goalkeeper Cody Jones helped the Trojans defeat Irmo High School on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the inaugural Bryan Ostrower Soccer Showcase.

Northwestern converted four of their five spot kicks to win the invitational tournament at Manchester Meadows over the defending 4A state champions by a score of 0-0 (4-3 on penalties).

Clover and Dorman did not play against one another in this tournament, unfortunately. It was a great weekend for high school soccer. Thanks to Dom and Neil Welborn and all those involved in making this tournament happen. It was first class all the way around. Prayers for the Rock Hill GK who I heard suffered a bad head injury in today's match against Spartanburg.

Alex Clary the Rock Hill Keeper injured in the game vs Spartanburg is home from the hospital. He has a concussion and severe neck sprain but is expected to make a full recovery.

Indian Land, Clover, Rock Hill boys win openers in Ostrower Soccer Showcase

The following teams are committed to the Bryan Ostrower High School Soccer Showcase, February 27, 28 and March, 2015. Northwestern High School will have a field of sixteen (16) teams. Each pool will have four (4) teams and we will guarantee each team four (4) games. Presently, we have twelve (12) teams committed and another two (2) teams that Northwestern High School is not ready to announce. This makes the present field at fourteen (14) teams.


Northwestern High School is currently looking for two (2) more teams. Interested parties should contact Niel Welborn at nielwelborn@comporium.net.

Dear Coaches:

2016 dates for the Brian Ostrower High School Showcase are February 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2016. Northwestern High is the host team.

Invitations will be extended to high schools in Tennessee and Virginia. Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex (site of the 2012 US YSA National Championship) is approximately four (4) hours from Knoxville, TN; three (3) hours from Johnson City, TN; less than four (4) hours from Knoxville, TN and less than three (3) hours from Danville, VA. Interstate 77 easliy connects with Interstate 85, Interstate 40, Interstate 26 and Interstate 20. Rock Hill, South Carolina is only nine (9) miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The City of Rock Hill PRT and York County/Rock Hill Convention and Visitor Bureau have both recommended over the last two (2) years that the tournament be moved to February 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2016 as we hope to take advantage of lower hotel rates for those teams wishing accommodations.

With the diversity of teams, the hope is that the purpose of such scheduling is to play teams that you will not see in the regular season or until the state championships. To the extent that Northwestern HS can, the committee will try to accommodate other scheduling wishes.

All games will be played at the stadium fields (artificial turf) at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex and District III Stadium (artificial turf). Both venues are two (2) miles apart. Inclement weather will not be an issue.

The Entry Fee will only be a total of $385.00 which will guarantee each school four (4) games. NO PURCHASE OF T-SHIRTS REQUIRED. Three (3) man teams of game officials will be used. Four (4) man teams of game officials will be use for the semi-final and final matches on Sunday, February 21, 2016.

ENTRY FEE IS NOT DUE UNTIL FEBRUARY 1, 2016. Only a signed contract guaranteeing your team's appearance is necessary. Contracts will be delivered after Labor Day 2015.
