Can someone explain to me how the State Champions Wando only have 2 players make All State and how the Gatorade Player of the Year does not make it on the list, but yet Irmo gets 4 players on. I have completely lost faith in our voting process.

I think it is impossible to pick a real all state team because no one has seen all the teams and players enough to really evaluate them so you end up with whoever shows up and can make the best argument for their players hence Irmo gets 4 players.
Best thing to do is to probably just let each team or district name a few outstanding players and make the all-state team just a collection of best players as opposed to an attempt to create a real all-state team.

It's always an interesting process/result. I was supposed to be on the committee this year but couldn't go because I had club tryouts.
I agree with Pjay that it's impossible to pick a true all state team due to the fact that not all teams/regions get a voice at the table.
Are players/teams being rewarded for how far they make it in the playoffs, how many wins they have, or is the player evaluated on individual stats?
I'm assuming it might be a combination of all of those things but how should it go?
I hear people complain, including myself, but how can it be fixed?
My suggestion, each region votes a region player of the year and they make the all-state team. The rest of the team, however many they want, are voted on by the committee. That way at least all the regions are represented.
No disrespect to Irmo, because by no means do I have room to talk, but they don't play in the strongest region so having 4 out of the 18 seems like a bit much. That's 22% of the all state team represented by one school. Sorry, that's the math teacher coming out in me.
More coaches represented at the meeting would be the easy answer but who knows?

I agree that Wando should have had better representation while 3 from Mann and 4 from Irmo was a little much. As for Gatorade POY, unlike all state which is selected by coaches who have seen the players (even though some may be biased), that player is chosen by some random group based on stats and recommendations from the players own coach. Based on that alone its validity is questionable.

You could start by excluding players who have been given red cards for violent conduct from being considered. Also not allowing coaches who have been given red cards from serving on the selection committees.

Why should all of the regions be represented? Just because they have teams? Following that logic why not just name the best players from the Upper and Lower State Championship participants- the final four- because obviously they have shown on the field , where it counts, that they are the best. And All State is supposed to be the best players in the State. Time was in SC High School, at least in basketball and baseball, that only players whose teams reached the finals were even considered for All State

One of the Irmo selections is the region player of the year and others are very deserving. Unfortunately you don't get to pick your region but Irmo gave Wando it's only lost as well as beating St. Joes.

Sorry not buying it.
Might be four very good players, but to say that four of the best players in the state come from Irmo while the team that won the state championship only rates two players?? Nah...
Same problem on the ladies side. Dutch Fork has 3 players while Mann and Wando have two each.
Sadly there is no easy way to fix the process. I doubt anyone in the state has seen every team play let alone taken notes on which players looked outstanding.

Without taking away from these wonderful athletes, there must be a better way to choose these awards. It is too political. Are these players chosen before the state championships are played? If so, is that fair? Also, what if the best player in the state plays on the least successful team?

Soccer is much different than basketball and baseball. One player can make a huge difference in a basketball game or a baseball game. One player does not always make a difference in a soccer game. Why hasn't Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi made it to the World Cup final? Soccer is a team sport. The best teams win games. The best players are not always surrounded by the best team. It does not take a championship to recognize the best players in the state.
