It's always an interesting process/result. I was supposed to be on the committee this year but couldn't go because I had club tryouts.
I agree with Pjay that it's impossible to pick a true all state team due to the fact that not all teams/regions get a voice at the table.
Are players/teams being rewarded for how far they make it in the playoffs, how many wins they have, or is the player evaluated on individual stats?
I'm assuming it might be a combination of all of those things but how should it go?
I hear people complain, including myself, but how can it be fixed?
My suggestion, each region votes a region player of the year and they make the all-state team. The rest of the team, however many they want, are voted on by the committee. That way at least all the regions are represented.
No disrespect to Irmo, because by no means do I have room to talk, but they don't play in the strongest region so having 4 out of the 18 seems like a bit much. That's 22% of the all state team represented by one school. Sorry, that's the math teacher coming out in me.
More coaches represented at the meeting would be the easy answer but who knows?
