I am going to chime in on this b/c i am tired of people thinking that the only players who are rewarded by the HSSR are people who pay for advertising. I have not paid a dime to HSSR in 11 years at AMHS. But i can tell you that they are at every State Championship soccer game. What makes that important is that our local Charleston paper did not send a reporter to our 2A final even though Wando was playing in the boys final. Our paper copied the HSSR article.
Was every coach who voted on the SCHSSCA All State teams in attendance and see players play?? NOPE. Why is there no uproar that "only people who join SCHSSCA have players selected" and "the SCHSSCA only rewards people who donate to the All Star games"? The fact is that the SCHSSCA and HSSR rely on input from qualified, experienced coaches who see a lot of quality players play.
The comment "who can't win at some of these schools" is absurd. That is like saying that the Miami Heat should not earn any awards b/c who could not win with LeBron, Wade and Bosch. Hey, the Denver Broncos should not earn any awards b/c who could not win with Peyton Manning and that offense. The top level schools are represented. Are there one or two surprises?? Yes... but show me a voting process where there is not a surprise or two. Hey, maybe the Oklahoma City Thunder paid more money for advertising during the year and that is why Kevin Durant was MVP and not LeBron James.
Lvrpul... you have been around long enough, please tell me which TEAMS you did not know played soccer?? Perhaps you did not know Aynor but that is only one team. You had to know that Charleston Charter played since they have been in two of the last three 1A state finals. Read through the rest of the All State list and tell me which other team you did not know played soccer.
