Who picked this stuff? I didn't even know that some of the schools named even played soccer. Heck you even picked a player of the year who didn't play in six of his teams games or was even the best player on his team. And only one player from BC? And a player from a team that was 10-6 and 5-5 in their conference and lost in the first round of the playoffs?

Does anyone ever put any stock into what this publication reports about soccer? And those coaching awards are a joke! How do you not win at some of those schools is the real question. How does someone from Aynor make it?

You have to remember that the High School Sports Report probably 'rewards' those schools that have paid space in their newspaper. I guess it's easy to say the coach of the year or player of the year came from state champions, although I think clemsongirl said it best, 'who can't win at some of those schools?'

I am going to chime in on this b/c i am tired of people thinking that the only players who are rewarded by the HSSR are people who pay for advertising. I have not paid a dime to HSSR in 11 years at AMHS. But i can tell you that they are at every State Championship soccer game. What makes that important is that our local Charleston paper did not send a reporter to our 2A final even though Wando was playing in the boys final. Our paper copied the HSSR article.

Was every coach who voted on the SCHSSCA All State teams in attendance and see players play?? NOPE. Why is there no uproar that "only people who join SCHSSCA have players selected" and "the SCHSSCA only rewards people who donate to the All Star games"? The fact is that the SCHSSCA and HSSR rely on input from qualified, experienced coaches who see a lot of quality players play.

The comment "who can't win at some of these schools" is absurd. That is like saying that the Miami Heat should not earn any awards b/c who could not win with LeBron, Wade and Bosch. Hey, the Denver Broncos should not earn any awards b/c who could not win with Peyton Manning and that offense. The top level schools are represented. Are there one or two surprises?? Yes... but show me a voting process where there is not a surprise or two. Hey, maybe the Oklahoma City Thunder paid more money for advertising during the year and that is why Kevin Durant was MVP and not LeBron James.

Lvrpul... you have been around long enough, please tell me which TEAMS you did not know played soccer?? Perhaps you did not know Aynor but that is only one team. You had to know that Charleston Charter played since they have been in two of the last three 1A state finals. Read through the rest of the All State list and tell me which other team you did not know played soccer.

Congrats to the players and coaches. However, I can say as a coach that no one from the HSSR has ever contacted me or my AD about these teams. Think they need to step it up a bit to be a respected publication soccer wise. Even when I played they were an afterthought. No offense intended to the recipients. Just my two cents.

Only three schools on that list has players selected on the boys side. A total of 6 players were selected from schools who pay to support the HSSR.

Look at Jake Barton from Indian Land or Julian Welborn from Northwestern. They are a perfect example of people who made it from schools who don't support HSSR
