SCHSSCA Members:

I spoke with SCHSL Soccer Representative Skip Lax last week in regards to future state championships.

One of the proposals, that I mentioned, would be to break up the current gender-oriented Friday (Girls) and Saturday (Boys) finals in favor of a classification-oriented schedule, as follows:

Friday
Class 1A Boys, 3 pm
Class 2A/1A Girls, 5 pm
Class 2A Boys, 7 pm

Saturday
Class 3A Girls, 10 am
Class 4A Girls, 12:30 pm
Class 3A Boys, 3:30 pm
Class 4A Boys, 6 pm

Please offer your comments in this thread.
Would you support a change to a Classification-oriented State Championship Weekend rather than the current gender-oriented format?

Would we benefit more from having the 3A boys and girls playing back to back followed by the 4A boys and girls? I know in past years that would help the fans from the schools that may be playing in both the girls and boys finals. For example, Wando in 2014 and 2011, then Hilton Head in 2013 and 2012.

Possibly. That's why we need to discuss it.

I like the idea of classes playing together like Sean stated, could also generate more fans at games like he stated.

I know in small groups we have discussed this and that seemed to be the overall opinion of the group. Kevin, would it be possible for this year, or would we have to propose it for next season?

Just remember that schsl just voted in 5 divisions. That should go in to effect the following year, 16-17. Since we are keeping the same format this year( I assume at this late date), would you want to change it for next year to only have to change it again the next year with 5 divisions? Just something to think about.

I like the general idea of having both boys and girls of a division on the same day.

To piggy back off of that thought... is the new girls 1A going to have enough teams to have their own division or will it still be 1A/2A girls?

How many do you need to have a separate 1A final? I like the idea of having a little time between the 4A games in order to get lunch or just have a break instead of being in the stands for two straight games.

I'd rather see 3A boys/girls and 4A boys/girls back-to-back myself.
