ForTheLoveOfTheGame, well done! As with any statistical comparison - there are qualifiers to be made. But to spend the amount of time you must have spent, I thank you. Another viewpoint of the SC High School soccer world is appreciated.

I can see doing this if you are hoping to make 1 team look better than some of the other ones. Putting Academic Magnet above Mann and Mann being 2 spots down is very incorrect. Wando is 1 and Mann is 2. I read somewhere where a Coach said that they were tired when they played Mann, that they didn't have there legs under them. They played the same schedule as Mann so there was no difference.
Myself, I would rather see things like this not be published, it is more of an opinion instead of all facts. You have already said that some teams haven't reported scores. So why publish information that isn't accurate?

432, nothing you say is incorrect. The bottom line, it's all opinion based on a collection of facts. Not all of the facts - but as many as can reasonably be collected and massaged. All the standings and rankings and polls go away when two teams hit the field. But every team can't play every other team, and even if they did, it's hard to judge a team on one outcome. You mention things about tired legs, sometimes key players are missing, all factors that when added together affect a game's outcome - but very, very hard to quantify in a ranking system. You, like most people have an opinion of a team's quality, based on what you know and that's appropriate. I don't know much about many of the teams so things like this poll, or index, give me an idea. I know it's tainted - but it's better than nothing - to me.

Coach Cady,
I agree. What the ranking does is identify the top teams in the state. Which is ranked where in that top five is likely up to debate. All have a whole lot of strength with relatively few weaknesses. The playoffs should be exciting. I'm thinking Dutch Fork and Mann should meet up in AAAA Upper State, but there's some teams along the way that could give them some trouble (Dorman for one). Lexington and Wando should meet in Lower State, but maybe Fort Dorchester will be the spoiler. Probably the only prediction that can be made is that there will be some really good games between now and the State Championship.
