Question: Without a major injury where a player is having to receive treatment on the field occurring, what is the largest amount of stoppage time that you've seen given? Last night in our home match against Seneca, I had a ref give TEN minutes of stoppage time due to "fouls, throw-ins, and that one injury the GK got (which took 2 minutes to get him off the field and that is probably being generous)". This same referee gave 8 minutes of stoppage time last season in our away game against Walhalla, and there was not even an extended stoppage for injury in that one. In both cases, we have been leading with the other team chasing the game. There are multiple other reasons (dating back years with both our girls and guys programs) that I think there is some bias that this particular ref has against Daniel High, but I wanted to get some perspective and see if that high of stoppage time occurred elsewhere?

Must say it seems excessive in both cases. Almost must say the majority of our officiating has been good this year. When I was in the Lowcountry, we were allowed to black ball one name from officiating list if we felt conditions such as you mention existed. Both of my A.D's encouraged me to do this if deemed necessary.

We've had maybe one game this season where there was excessive stoppage time added for no reason. The longest time added in one of our games was last week & it was 6 minutes extra due to a player being down for that amount of time

There is not supposed to be stoppage time in a high school soccer contest. Time stops only on:

Goal, Penalty kick, yellow and red cards, and at discretion of referee (to assess possible injury, time wasting, etc.)

I have asked several referees their interpretation of this and I can tell you that it has been inconsistent at best as to when they stop their watch or not. It has been very inconsistent to say the least.

Was told by a few referees the rules from the HSL state that a Varsity game will last 80 minutes or 2 - 40 minute halves. "Extra Time" or any other wording isn't allowed. The only time we can truly add time is when injuries have occurred that have cause massive delays.

So from the way I took it was, clock time is almost Exactly like college. Which besides injuries, runs by the scoreboard and ends exactly on time.

You guys should move to where the scoreboard clock is the game clock. Then there is never any question how much time is left. I still don't understand why the scoreboard isn't the official time.

If you are going to argue a point, at least get factual information to back up your side.....

From what everyone is saying, it sounds like what I already knew, but wanted to be confirmed. And yes, he really did say he added time due to throw ins. We've already told our school to request we not have this particular ref again for playoffs, hopefully our request is heard.
