BOYS: North 0-2 South
The South unit stopped a three-game skid against the North with a 2-0 victory at Fraser Field. It marked the South’s first win since 2021 as they cut into the North’s All-Time Series lead to 19-14-3 in the 37-year battle that began in 1989. Catawba Ridge’s Jermaine Smith was selected the MVP for the North team due to his work ethic throughout the contest, while of Myrtle Juan Rivera Beach was recognized with the honor on the South squad for his presence in the final third of the pitch and a wonder goal with just seven minutes remaining. Despite the North starting with a firm hold in the match early on, the South unit grew into the game and were rewarded just before halftime after an injury to a pair of North players who collided along the back line. Waccamaw’s Charlie Whittington took a shot on goal that was blocked by North goalkeeper Liam Pendergast of Catawba Ridge, but the rebound was found by an onrushing Aiden Ruggiero of Academic Magnet who smashed home the opening goal in the 38th minute. In the second half, Rivera put the game to bed with a score from the left flank outside the penalty area that rocketed into the far side netting past an outstretched Pendergast for a 2-0 victory.
