True, there was not a major sponsor in 89, but we had more time, were only dealing with boys team and just a fact of life, everything cost more.

but it could be done, correct? I have to agree with Lowerstate4A on this one. The game should be played no matter what, one day or two days, doesn't matter.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here.. but.. this was originally posted almost a month ago..

In a month's time..could enough funds to secure hotel rooms not be raised?

I know it's easy to be on the outside looking in.. but man.. I would say make the list..have the game.. hotel for 40 people..one night.. make a deal with the hotel..and/or raise funds to cover that.. minimal physical "awards" ..say..an award document or something as opposed to a banquet..

Lowerstate4A is dead on.. the list and the game are what matter..

Again..don't want to sound like I'm dissing those involved in this decision..but this stinks.

I can see the importance and necessity to make it a quality event, as the coaches want it to be. It should be that way for those top seniors in their last HS game. But when you are in a pinch you have to sorta pull it off anyway you can.

The post above which states we should still have the game as a one day event is right. This game cannot be cancled. 4 the past 4 years players that are not THAT GREAT but are ok have looked forward to this game. You gotta be kidding me by canceling it. Be proactive. Make the kids where their school jersies. If it were Football I know the state would find a way for this game to be played. Let's not let a great tradition die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the game cannot be saved (in my mind a less than first class show is better than no show at all in this case), then name the teams anyway and send those players a certificate. Many seniors look forward to this announcement and if they can't play in the game, they should still be able to put it on their playing resume' or fond high school soccer memories. For many this will be the biggest highlight of their playing career. Let them have that joy.

Call it "Throwback North/South" or "North/South 2005: Retun to the Roots" and have all players wear replica uniforms from 1989. Give all participants a t-shirt an a certificate and hold it as a one day event like I mentioned in my earlier post.

I think that by playing the game at an "at all costs" mind set will show potential sponsors how far (or more appropriately how passionately) the South Carolina soccer community is willing to go to hold this event. I know, let's ask the players what they think.

If you hold it, they will come.

Can't the AD's from the schools the "honored" kids have represented over the years come up with some of the $$ for a scaled down event. I know budgets are tight, but...

Can't (some/most) of the parents of the "honored" kids come up with some of the $$ also.

Perhaps these avenues have been explored also...

Can someone tell me what costs $25,000? Sorry but I think this can be just as good and have the parents pick up the tab for the hotel rooms for their kids. I would certainly pay if my child was selected. If some cannot afford it then perhaps their school can help with that portion. Don't give up on this.

Now that the game has been officially cancelled, the only thing left to do is to gather support among players and members of the high school soccer community to organize a scaled-down version of the north-south game. With a little help from the SCHSSCA, the players that are committed to the game, not the event, could put together something on a tight budget. If we show that we are dedicated to the game this year, we could attract new sponsors for the future and keep the north-south game going.
