Really, with all the brains and coaching staff that visits this board, it can be put together. Give us the details of what needs to be done for a one day event/two day event. Let everyone brainstorm, players, coaches and parents(former players), whomever.

Wayne,

I agree for the most part with you. You and I both know the work that goes into this thing. My biggest thing is that I hate the fact that one of my "boys" will miss out on the chance that his brother got. Call me selfish but a lot of these kids aim for this honor for three or four years. For some players this is the chance to play at another level. Knowing all you "old school" guys and having been around ya'll and seen you in action I am really confident that the SCHSSCA can figure this thing out. I look forward to working towards a more positive result on Sat. See you there.

Will

AK 47 or whoever you are, you are missing the point. Everything takes money. It took money to create this website for you to even post that ridiculous post on. Relax. Again, nobody wants to showcase our top hs players more than the coaches association. To sit back now and take shots at these guys and offer last minute suggestions is not good enough. Name the team and perhaps offer a banquet of sorts. But, to put on a last ditch effort of a match is in nobody's best interest, in my opinion.

wayne & coach,
With all due respect to each of you, I don't think any of us are proposing last ditch efforts or accusing anyone of dropping the ball. This is primarily a discussion of possibilities for the event this year. Maybe some of the comments, for sure, are said in haste and not respectful of the event. It is a big event and it should be put on in a big way, but not this year. I know that the association wants to present a quality product, and it should. But without the sponsor and funds, thats impossible this year. I believe that if the association can still put the event on, that you would be in a better position over the coming next year to approach another sponsor and show that you were so dedicated to this event, that you found a temporary way to modify the event and still put it on. I think if you look at 2,3 scenarios that you may come up with a doable event. Thanx for your efforts as coaches and as members of the association!

Coach,

You are right it does take money. BUT there are ways around that excuse for not having the game. I don't see it as "last ditch" I see it as the SCHSSCA coming up with a N/S game that can fit our budget and time line. Also If you have all the kids there for a Banquet you might as well play.

How is this for an idea. I don't have a lot of them so please be kind. I am planning this with playing at Mt Pleasent in mind.

8:30 Check In/ Physicals

10:00 Practice

11:30 Lunch/Banquet

1:30 Girls Match/ After Match Physicals

3:30 Boys Match/ After Match Physicals

Feel free to edit any way you see fit. Just an idea to throw out!

AK 47, I like that one, lol. Anyway, yes it takes money, but not to the excess that is being thrown out here! Who is taking shots, I, like everyone else, am trying to offer solutions, they are the ones who decided at the last minute that there was not enough money(for them to do it the way they want). To say, we don't have $25000 so we can't do it is not the right answer. A "last ditch effort is in nobodies best interest"? So the players would not be interested!? Really, coach, get with it, instead of attacking me, attack the problem at hand, it is probably an easier one to tackle!

AH2K3, my point is that this is a problem that may not be able to be "tackled" at this point in time. Again, I am not involved with it, so I could be totally off-base. But, I do know that utilizing your solution of a come if you can and we can play 9v9 is not the answer, and it is not in the player's best interest. I didn't say that the players wouldn't be interested. I think you misunderstood my use of the word "interest." If the game can be organized and facilitated in a way that best promotes the sport and the players and represents the association in a classy, professional fashion, then I am all for it. "Tackling" is a separate issue. Besides, by offering rational solutions or explanations would suffice.

Will, that is precisely my point. I wasn't using money as an excuse. It was used in the context of, as you stated, fitting in with the budget and timeline that is now driving the thought of whether or not the matches can even be played.

Coach, I definately see where you are coming from. I wouldn't want to see a "picnic" style game either. But, I just don't think it is time to give up on it. With all the interest it is being given just on these boards, it seems a hearty effort can still be made to make a productive event. Coach Eudy's proposel could be a great start to organize around.

Thanks to Aiken County and the $1,000 that they have pledged for the North-South Soccer Classic. This is the action that we need. No talk, just results!

Aiken HS ($250)
North Augusta HS ($250)
South Aiken HS ($250)
Aiken Soccer Club ($250)

Special thanks to those "behind the scenes" that made this happen!!!

We're continuing to work to make this game a reality THIS year!

More good news is forthcoming, so keep the 'action' coming!
