A message from North-South Soccer Classic Director Tom Reilly concerning the 2005 All-Star event.

Since 1989 the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association, the Town of Mount Pleasant, and the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club have forged a partnership to present the South Carolina North-South Soccer Classic. The classic has been recognized throughout the southeast as one of the finest high school soccer events of its kind.

The all-star classic has recognized South Carolina’s finest student-athletes who have exemplified themselves in the classroom and on the athletic field. The participants have represented the highest levels of academic achievement: class valedictorians; salutatorians; various national honor societies; state-funded scholarship recipients; as well as prestigious service academy; college and university scholarships. They have been recognized on the state, regional, and national levels for their accomplishments on the soccer field. In addition to their scholastic and athletic achievements, the honorees have a legacy of involvement in various volunteer community service activities.

The SCHSSCA has also been able to recognize high school soccer coaches who have been committed to providing student-athletes with experiences that reflect the highest levels of sportsmanship and hard work. Numerous members of the coaches’ association have volunteered their time and effort in an altruistic manner in order to ensure that the experiences of the classic participants are of the highest level.

Many small businesses and organizations have contributed money, products and/or services to the classic. The North-Soccer Classic is indebted to THE HOME DEPOT for the many years of financial support they provided in order for the participants in the classic to be honored in a “first class” manner. Regardless of the type or amount of support, the North-South Soccer Classic is grateful to everyone who has contributed to the success of the event.

The North–South Soccer Classic is at a critical juncture that necessitates the membership of the SCHSSCA, the South Carolina soccer community, and those interested in recognizing outstanding student-athletes, to “step up to the plate”, contribute to the financial security of the classic, and ensure the classic’s continuation.
