And for Soccerboy. I think it depends on the type of talent as to what kind of game you play on the field. And your correct, although I wasn't around, the previous NW teams were bigger and more defensive as you could view from the difference in score from this years teams versus last.
So maybe the past two years they, for what you call, packed it in, but they did not have the speed or the scoring ability they have now and they were all seniors versus what this team is now so there was a maturity factor also.
As far as "promoting" a slow game? They have 80+ goals promoting a slow game? Doubt it....
