As far as the Spring Valley and Wando game is concerned to redirect this topic. I think Spring Valley will struggle winning 50/50 balls in the middle do to the lack of size. I would agree that Spring Valley doesn't have anyone that matches up well with a big aggressive mid-fielder. And rather than SV not having anyone to disrupt Newtons play I think this game will hinge on whether Newton can disrupt Spring Valleys mid field presence. In all of the games that I have seen them play they tend to run the middle. They do not by pass their mid field and dribble the ball into the attacking 3rd if Newton does not play solidly on both sides of the ball you can see some dangerous attacks coming out of the middle. The other player that is going to make a big difference is Rowell if Spring Valley is going to win this game he is going to have to give their backs a head ache. He can cause problems and if they have to over commit to Chase you will see players like patty running through. I expect this to be much closer than most people expect.

Wando's defense gave up only 2 goals in region play. I don't think Rowell will be a huge problem for them. This game will be a great one to watch. I think that if one team is going to win it will have to be a team effort and the star players (rowell and newton) will have to play at the top of their game. I'm not predicting anything as it is the playoffs and its all up in the air. I do believe however that this will be the best game to watch, FIRSTROUND. Good luck to both teams.

Wando's defense gave up only 2 goals in region play.....lets see....what are the region teams?

1) Berkeley- definately a soccer powerhouse!
2) Stratford- another super strong soccer program
3) West Ashley- Unlike their girl's program, the boys aren't up to par yet
4) Goose Creek- I was unaware that that school has a soccer program
5) James Island- Only other school that is good in soccer in the region

And you think that region play has anything to do with Wando being a good team. They come from a crappy region. If you look at out of region play, they had 9 scored on them. They had close games against Hilton Head, Summerville, Dutch Fork and James Island multiple times. They beat Dutch Fork 1-0, and then 17 days later, Dutch Fork got beat by SV 3-1. I think that Wando will have their hands full with SV. Should be a good game to see, it could go either way. Should be interesting to see how Wando does against a good team.

Wando 2 SV 1

Wando is Wando.....they win in the post season....now a lot of that might have to do w/ Dr. Reiley...SV has "the curse" ....they always get knocked out early.....just the facts.

As for Newton.....Tigerman you are way off....maybe an all region team is coaches pushing but the Region III team is one of the most talented teams in the US. Newton will not redshirt at CU he will fill in at spots inthe back like he did for the RIII team overseas this spring. For this game he will win the midfield battle and control the pace of the game.

Neither team is an offensive dynamo so it will be close......but as I said before Wando knows how to win in the playoffs.

2-1 Wando.....Newton has one....Rowell or Flynn for SV

No one mentions the Wando defense too much. So what happens when a team gets past Newton at midfield? Well there is good and bad..........Semsar in defense is their key. Big boy....must be 7ft 2, 295 lbs. He can handle Rowell, Flynn & co. easily. But the bad is their keeper who looks to be very young and inexperienced. Still........who can't beat SV? except maybe Dreher....

I'm betting on it being 2-1 Wando. It's 80% mental, and I know wando has the brains behind the game.

Is it a "curse" or coaching with SV?

Well now that YOU brought it up.....I would say both......In the past it was coaching....but with this team winning the Carolina Soccer Classic to start the year you would have to argue both.

I mean for the past TEN or so years the ball never seems to "bounce" their way......BUT to be honest .....they guys never really cared about HS like they did about Club/Patriots.

What do you say.....Oh yeah what's going on in the lowerstate.....I saw where Sumter had an opening for boys HC in soccer....do you know the story? I remember you used to post about Whit and those boys back in the day....any news?

I agree with you on that. They have always cared more about the Patriots, Galaxy, etc. than about SV. Would they care more about SV if Tripp or someone else was coaching? I would think so.

As far as Sumter is concerned, I heard not too long ago that Damon Hubert, who took over for Shelley, was going to start selling Real Estate here in the Columbia area. Not really sure who they will get for that job. Not a very desirable job anymore.
