I decided to make the trip over to SA and watch this game. First of all, the game should have been 2-1. About midway through the second half, SA was called for obstruction about 8 yds from goal. The wall thus has to stand on the goal line. Lexington had a player on the ball and one ready to hit it. The player taps the ball and as the other player is hitting the ball the ref blows the whistle b/c SA moved forward. Of course, Lex scores. So they get to re-kick and score, however, the same thing happens. They score once again and it gets called back. They take the kick again and it is cleared off the line.

SA did not look very good at all. Jamal only tried when the ball was in his area. Lexington, as Striker stated yesterday, was a very average team. I know Faulkner is quality, but the second goal was probably his fault. After that, he was only tested one or two times. After everyone on this message board talking, I expected SA to be much better. Maybe they took the game lightly, but after only beating Spartanburg 3-1 and Lex 2-0 (both very avg teams)I am not ready to claim that they will win the upperstate like alot of others are. Goose, however, is the real deal in the net. Possibly the best GK to come out of SC in many years.

Question: Why would the kick get called back if the SA player moved? Did he move before the tap or after? I would assume that he moved after which means that it shouldn't have been called back. I don't understand.

Numerous SA players moved before the kick. Hence, after the second time, Jamal and another player got yellows. The official should have let play continue and booked those later. He took a goal away from Lex on both occasions.

actually lowerstate, the ball was kicked before the whistle was blown.. two occasions.. the third, Jamal ran forward, thus receiving a yellow card. the fourth was cleared.

The best thing to do in those cases is to take a quick re-start and shot on goal. Did Lex. do that?
If they did and scored and then ref blew whistle, he was in error. You can't allow a team to interfere with play or restart just because of a foul.

actually dex, i heard what the ref told the lex coach and that he said that it was never touched by anyone else. The ref absolutely made the wrong decision and then could not admit it to the coach.

2004-SA did a great job of delaying things as soon as the foul occurred so there was no chance. the ref had to move the players back. there was only 3 attempts also, not 4 as dext3r stated.

if the referee told the player to wait on his whistle like someone said, then the lexington player was at fault, and the kick should be retaken. But there are just too many scenarios, and everybody has said something different.

It was the refs fault he was awful all night and i dont think the other ref blew his whistle once the entire game. Lexington just got one of there starters back from a broken leg and he will end up helping lexington a lot. Lexington has played very average in games but has also had some great games. If lexington could learn to come out and play the way they can every game like last night against SA they wouldnt be considered average. That call was awful and the thing was he called it 2 times. Lexington also had a head early in the game that goose made an unreal save to keep it out of the net.

SA did win and they are undefeated. They are currently ranked #1 in the State. As a matter of fact I believe they are 16-0-1 with just 3 games left in regular season. With that said I dont know when the last time you were on a team that went undefeated or won a championship but for you to say that they are average is a bit naive. Any time you play 17 games and can come out with no loses it is anything but average. Quite the opposite it is very above average. Anyone who has ever been a part of a season like this knows that you have your ups and downs through out the course of your run. Teams come better prepared to play you and exploit your weaknesses. Excellent teams "Find a way" to win despite what is thrown their way. Thus far that is what SA has done. This team has a lot of players who are used to winning on a big stage and understand the highs and lows you go thru over the course of the season which will make them dangerous. I am not ready to give them the State Championship trophy yet either but they are anything but average. By the way Jamal did score yesterday, not bad for a kid that "only tried when the ball was in his area Jamal is BIG TIME! There are a lot of excellent players in our state now but if you think he is not one of them then wow is all I can say.
I think that SA has a couple of major hurdles to get over.
1) Cross county rivals N. Augusta. Eric Baffour had a season ending injury the last time they played and NA lost. This time SA will play without a major scoring threat due to Jamal's two yellow cards last night.
2) Northwestern's Nick Fonati will have his team well prepared for SA. They are a very capable side and lets face it, if the X-Factor is the coach being able to adjust his team during the match, then you have to go with Nick every time!
3) Irmo, We all love to talk trash about Irmo and count them out year after year and still they keep winning. Why is that? Phil Savitz knows better then the rest of us how to win, He teaches it to his kids and his kids respect him at a level where they dont want to disappoint him. I do think he made a huge mistake in the game vs. SA. 3 Backs against a team that has Jamal, are you CRAZY Phil. In my opinion the only reason you lost that game. Only mistake I have seen you make in yrs. You were due.

Were did I say they were an average team? No where in my post do i say that they are average. I said that Lexington was an average team and that I thought SA did not play very well last night. so please inform me where i claim that they are average? However, as you state, teams have good games and bad games. Thats exactly what I was saying, it appeared that SA did not play very well last night, which is much different than me saying that they are average.

i missed Jamal's goal. However, I know that he is an excellent player, but again, that does not take away from the fact that his work rate was not very high last night. Against a team like Lexington, he could have easily of scored 2 or 3. and its not like he missed a ton of chances either. Did you see him work particularly hard when he did not have the ball? Last nights effort is not how he became one of the best players in the state. Would you agree?

I agree with #2 and #3, but Jamal will not have to sit out as two yellows in high school only mean that you have to sit the rest of the game. Or at least thats how it used to be.

And if you want to start criticizing people, who are you to refer to Coach Savitz and Coach Finotti as Phil and Nick?
