GW 18.....Right on...I forgot about temoc...well done....he and kwon are my top two.....I still think Tomeck is good but he has ALWAYS been surrounded by GREAT talent.....same thing at Duke...Blake Champ and the other two freshmen are sick ass...once he is the captain and first team all acc then he will be up there w/ Kwon and Suarez.

oh yeah Hector and Victor (temoc twin bros) played at UNC as well.....I don't think Smith is from SC.... but well said!!!!

Tomek is the best player to come out of SC. He played for the Dallas Texans i believe this past year and before that he played on the national champions Atlanta Fire. At nationals he was the golden boot award winner i believe. He also went to a camp where the like top 100(i may be wrong on how many) players are invited to. The top like 30 players i think or something like that are selected to play in a game. He was the MVP of that game. Tomek is the best player.

I think this argument is a bit devisive and a little ignorant. They are both quality but provide distinctly different roles for a team. J is an athletic attacking player while Tomek has great vision and understanding . He can score and create opportunities for others. I know that Tomek regularly trained with pro clubs in Europe( Sporting Lisbon, Blackburn etc) and came up in the system of a pro team in his native Poland. As a coach I would have to decide if I wanted a An athletic front runner-flank player( which is probably where Jamal will play) or a dynamic attacking mid who can chgange the game. Both kids need to commended for their abilities and not compared. If we truly want to see SC soccer develop then give them both Props and shutup about it!

Here's a quick list of my "top players" from the Palmetto State over the past 25 years. Some have gone on to professional careers, but many did not have that opportunity until the past 10 or so years. I'm not commenting on any current high school players.

Jason Alsberry (West Florence), Forward, ???, just from a soccer talent standpoint this guy was simply great at finishing scoring chances

Marty Baltzegar (Irmo), Defender, University of South Carolina
NSCAA All-American -- one of only two national collegiate All-Americans from this state

Scott Brown (Irmo), Defender, University of South Carolina -- solid marking back at the collegiate level and hard-nosed player

Steven Busch (Myrtle Beach), Forward, German exchange student (no one had an answer defensively for this goal machine who scored 85 goals in 2000)

Doug Campbell (Middleton), Goalkeeper, ??? -- maybe the College of Charleston (can't remember)

Tomek Charowski (Christ Church), Midfielder, Duke University, well known player at the national level from club soccer and led the Cavaliers to four-straight 1A titles despite missing a lot of his senior season due to other soccer commitments

Andrew Coggins (Middleon), Forward, University of South Carolina, one of the top players ever from S.C. and I think the best ever when discussing winning balls in the air and scoring off headers

Craig Forest (Irmo), Forward, Wofford College/University of North Carolina-Charlotte -- paired with Harriford up top for the Yellow Jackets and was part of a lethal and physical scoring duo, All Metro Conference at UNCC

Ward Harriford (Irmo), Forward, University of South Carolina -- bad knees cost him a promising career

Kyle Izzard (Andrew Jackson), Forward, ??? (a great high school goal scorer)

Johnnie Keen (Chapin), Forward/Midfielder, The Citadel -- if you could catch him you had a chance to contain him, but not much

Ryan Kurtz (Irmo), Forward, University of South Carolina/College of Charleston

Andy Kwon (Spring Valley), Midfielder, Duke University

Troy Lesesne (Brookland-Cayce), Midfielder, College of Charleston
NSCAA All-American (see Baltzegar above), not a harder worker in this group

J.C. Nicholson (T.L. Hanna), Midfielder/Defender, gritty player who maxed out his potential and was a stalwart at the high school level and very solid collegian

Erik Ozimek (Spring Valley), Midfielder, University of Maryland/Davidson College

Michael Pao (Riverside), Forward, Vanderbilt University

Jeremy Ransom (Chapin), Goalkeeper, Presbyterian College, NCAA Division II All-American, played professionally for a while with Hershey (PA)

Jabari Seabrook (Brookland-Cayce), Defender, College of Charleston, a super marking back with unbelievable speed and the strongest player I've ever seen at 5-6, 140 pounds

Jorn Steinmoen (Brookland-Cayce), Midfielder, Norwegian exchange student (unbelievable year in '89 with 75 PTS, 29 G, 17 A and at 6-4, 190-pounds was a man amongst boys)

Temoc Suarez (Bishop England), Midfielder, University of North Carolina, probably gets my vote for the best player I've seen from S.C.

Glenn Thompson (Irmo), Goalkeeper, University of South Carolina, "old school" GK who was the best of his time in S.C. of the early 1980s

Adam Walker (Bishop England), Defender/Utility, University of Kentucky, can play this guy anywhere on the field

Hans Whetstone (Brookland-Cayce), Utility, University of South Carolina, blue collar player that was tough as nails, Team Captain at USC

Honorable Mention -- a bunch of the "best teams" from Greenwood (mid 90s), Mauldin(80s and 90s), North Augusta (87-90), Wando (1980-present), etc., that had great players for the high school level and posted great records due to their talent and depth ... I'm sure some upper state and lower state folks can contribute more about the teams from Riverside of the late 80s/early 90s and some more of the Bishop England and Middleton teams of the same era.

John Wilson - (Seneca) Clemson, also played with the Battery for a while. Probably best player to come out of the upper state.

So you like to play with the asterik key huh? OK.

Shi***ed,
Did player answer your questions. The fact that you don't even know where Tomek played "crap" club ball makes every statement you make about this subject irrelevant.

Stick to what you know dude;Ridge View soccer needs you.
