I do not like 3 and 4.

4 for obvious reasons, 3 because weak teams in the conference would have to be slaughtered.

Since every team has two play the region opponent home and away, why not do what the champions league or FIFA do with goal aggregate.

This will mandate to play attacking soccer. If goal aggregate is tied then do the away goal calculations.

Good thought...I like that. Put weight on AWAY goals. I didn't think AD's could grasp the concept....trying to keep it simple, don't want to "overwhelm" anyone with the process.

By the way, my scenario would go as follows:

If two teams are tied:

1- head-to-head
2- Goals aggregate of home and away series
3- Goals away in series
4- Goals allowed in region

If more than two teams are tied jump to #3.

If all is tied......

Games against common opponents.

If still tied....

each team draws a card form a deck of cards, highest card wins, then the second and so on.

Or rock, paper, scissors. Anything will do.

The tie breaking procedure is drafted by the AD's for ALL sports. You are not going to get a specific set for each sport. In Reigon 7 it is head to head, then you are awarded points for the other teams you have beat in your reigon, then regular season record w/o Tour. games, then regular season including Tour games, then a coin toss. This is for all sports. Remember this is HS you have to make ruels that work for all programs. This is the reason that HS soccer is much diffrent than club.

I for one do not agree with PK's to determine the winner. If the game is a tie at the end of 2-40 havles and 2-5 minute OT periods, the game should stay as a tie. This tells me that both teams are equal and the game should not be decided based off the keepers abilities...it is a TEAM sport, decided by the play of each team.
I would agree to extending the OT periods to 2-10 minute periods. Seeding based off point system. One last thing, I do favor the Golden-Goal concept for OT. Afterall, both teams had 80 minutes in which to score...

If this is something that the SCHSSCA truly wants to have changed for the future, then we must have a consensus at our Summer Clinic meeting in Charleston.

We can draft a proposal to change the procedure, but it has to go through the amendment process via the SCHSL.

Kevin - I, of course, am on board and will be in attendance at the meeting. As Coach Jackson mentioned above, the Region VII, 4-A tie break would still work as a means of breaking a tie if used statewide, without using goals for/against or goal differentials. How do other regions resolve ties for the purposes of seeding for playoffs?

Here, again are the Region VII, 4-A tie breaking procedures:
1.) Winner of head to head matches
2.) Points winner for beating other teams in region
3.) Best regular season record not counting tournaments
4.) Best regular season record including tournament games
5.) A coin toss.

This is across the board for all sports.

Furthermore, if tied at the end of regulation I vote for two 10 minute overtimes without golden goal. If there have been goals then 20 minutes will likely produce more, and if it has been 0-0 then perhaps exhaustion will produce a goal.

Todd -- Don't you think that this would encourage coaches to "water down" their regular season schedule in order to gain an advantage for #3 and #4? This was often the case under the old 4A points system which was easily manipulated due to who you played out of region and what caliber tournament you participated.

3.) Best regular season record not counting tournaments
4.) Best regular season record including tournament games

Also, and I'm pretty sure I may be in the minority on this, but I'm for the "golden goal" as I think it would lend the same excitement as does the deciding penalty kick does now. However, I am for the two 10-minute overtime periods as well, but I'd like to see the "golden goal" added.

Hmm...I hadn't considered that it might cause "watering down." Now I have to cancel some matches!

Seriously, I suppose that is a consideration. On one level I think many coaches would still seek out the best competition to better prepare their players for the toughest region matches and the playoffs. Watered down teams would probably then lose out to better teams making 3 and 4 a non-issue. Still, it is a consideration. What are some alternatives? I don't want to get into goal differential, personally.

Sorry man, I don't like golden goal, but we can always put it up for a vote.

I'm just speaking from experience and there were some instances when teams (read: coaches) would schedule light out-of-region competition knowing that they would be in the thick of the region-title hunt and if they split with the one other team that could win the region, then they could capitalize on #3/#4 tie-breaker scenario to get a much, much better playoff seed (including home field advantage).

I think that the "golden goal" debate would need to be voted on as well.
