Well, I am sorry I started this whining session. The SCHSL is a nonprofit organization. They, like many other athletic organizations, pursue contracts with manufacturers in order to support athletics in SC.
We see this at many levels and it often involves a contract under which all sports at a particular university, for example, must come.

I agree that there are better balls and that there were problems in the past with balls. Spaulding is the sponsor, however, for SCHSL. Some of us need to think outside our soccer box and be thankful that we were finally asked to evaluate the ball.
I do not know when the contract runs out. But, when it does I am sure one of you who are complaining will be ready to step in with the money to replace Spaulding so you can decide what ball will be used. We'll even put your name on it.

Come on Wayne, really! Sure they pursue contracts with manufacturers, but they do it, like I said, with football and basketball in mind. The HSL doesn't think about the whole line of sports. Why should we be thankful that we get to evaluate their ball? Nobody in soccer uses it for a reason! Spalding and the HSL should consider that and allow for others to be used. Come on, really, whining session. How many Spalding balls have you bought for your teams, ever?

sorry for the whining but i think you got it right when you indicated that there were problems last year with the balls and the same ones are being used for this year's championship games.

thanks to you that you're getting the word out early so that the players can get use to playing with the spaulding balls.

Lets clear something up You state they(schsl) have asked some teams to demo. If they are asking can a team refuse?

Coach J,

You just don't get it. Spaulding balls are it until the contract runs out. My only goal here was to give those of you who are fortunate enough to play in the big one a chance to get used to the ball. By the way my kids love it.
Next time I get such info from SCHSL I will just keep it to myself.

No I do get it,Wayne. I have been coaching football for 15 years and I underdstand better than most. I simply asked the question about the HSL asking teams to try it. I don't think they asked. I think they simply are saing use this ball and that is it. Correct me if I am wrong.

You are wrong. I know DF and Chapin were asked to demo the balls. I believe if there had been a negative response they would have looked elsewhere.
