I wasnt saying that BFT should have won the game. I actually commend Fort D for winning that close game. But I read in the Beaufort Gazette that they outshot Fort D 18-3. Being outshot by that much by an OK team should cause some worry and confidence isnt the answer.

Reggae Boy: I am not predicting that HH will sweep the second half of the season. If anyone does, I like Summerville's chances. The fact is no one is much better than the others. So far, Hilton Head has found a way to win. They picked up road wins at Beaufort, Fort D., and Wando while losing only to James Island early. Considering the quality of those teams, not a bad record. You still have to like HH's chances of winning region 8 as they should be 5-0 after tomorrow. If Fort D. wins at Summerville tomorrow (big if) they will have only one loss and a great chance to win the region no doubt. If they lose tomorrow nite, it's hh's region to lose, as all contenders will have two losses. Simple math.

PGH86 I believe that being ("super intelligent" spelling bee champ and all) has caused you not to see my point which is not on the confidence factor but on our teams growth as a unit through our confidence as a unit thats all i am saying maybe u should have spent less time on ur spelling and more time on comprehension.

Ref Simple math indeed. I absolutely agree that there are several possibilities to the outcome of the region only time will tell.

OldRef,
Beaufort has been growing slowly over the years. Beaufort has been growing since 2002. That year, was a solid year and when BFT started to get a foothold into the region. (not 1st or 2nd, but a respectable 3rd place in the region) There was a little lull two years following, due to a loss of a great coach, and the coaching position being filled by a guy who has only coached little kid's recreation soccer. ( and I'm not kidding ) He didn't have a hold on the team at all, so the program went down. He decided to not do it anymore after those two years and was replaced by the assistant coach ( I call him "Greenman") [Wink] He turned BFT back in the right direction after the program fell into the lull for those two years, and has done a great job with the boys back at home. He's changed their mentality TOTALLY. He's a busy, busy man with two very young kids and a job that totally consumes him. I wonder how he does it sometimes! [Smile]
But yea, I give credit to "Greenman" and ol' Mr. Hudson for the huge change that has taken place back at home. So if you're still wondering OldRef, this has got to be the reason for the change back at home.
[Smile]
I got to give credit to the players too.

OLDREF: If I'm from another region, I don't want to face any of these teams in an early round of the playoffs, because they are all dangerous and capable of beating any team in the state on any one night.

I agree with you on that, Region 8* this year is really tight, and a very solid region. As of now, I got to say that this is ONE OF the toughest regions in the state.

To be perfectly clear, I am very impressed with the quality of play in region 8. Beufort, Fort D, Summerville, and Hilton Head are all playing quality soccer right now. Even though HH might have a lead right now, no one there is taking anything for granted right now. I went over to Beaufort last year to ref their game against Goose Creek. They won their game, but were not that impressive. I was very impressed with their play Tuesday nite against Hilton Head. I am glad they are playing better and getting good quality coaching. Soccer is the greatest sport on earth. We play to win, but the goal should always be to build character and develop fine young men. I think we can all be proud of the way these fine teams are conducting themselves on the pitch. It sure is fun to watch!!!

OldRef:

Thank you for your kind words about BHS. We have worked very hard over the last few years and are now seeing our program develop into a quality side. I agree that there are terrific teams in our region and can only hope that we can continue to compete at a high level.

I also totally agree with your statement that we (coaches/soccer program)strive to build character and develop fine young men. Wins and losses take a back seat to this and I truely feel we have accomplished and will continue to shoot even higher in helping our young men.

Best of luck!

BHS Soccer

[QUOTE]Originally posted by OldRef: I like summerville's chances

OldRef, you are correct in saying that all of the teams have a good chance in winning this region. However, I disagree with you on Summerville's chances of winning. True they did defeat Fort on friday, but both teams realized that this was Fort's game overall. Fort outplayed Summerville, but unfortunately made two major errors on defense. Summerville is a quality team, but with barely defeating Fort and losing to both Beaufort and HH, I don't see them coming out on top. I think the top contenders are HH for sure, then Beaufort and/or Fort. NO INTENTION of putting summerville down, I'm just stating facts. (not to mention fort suffered a injured starting goalie). Good luck to all in region VIII.
