Irmo's defense is by far the weakest of the 3. What Coach Savitz does to deal with that is just put a ton of pressure on the other team's backs and just attack attack attack. I still stand by my original opinion that if any team wants to beat Irmo then go to a 3-4-3. If you mark Acree and Prince and attack their backs with 3 forwards then they will have to defend and it will turn the tables. As it is right now, everyone is afraid of Irmo like they always are. Attack them and make them defend and then see who has the better defense. It is obvious that DF does nothing but defend when they have played a 4-5-1 in the past 2 big games... combined score: 5-1. As for the most talented... benp, you are correct on a lot of things that you say, but this one you aren't. Regardless of my brother being on the team, they are the most talented team in the state. My brother is just a piece of the puzzle at DF and he does help the talent that they do have. SV is the second most talented team in the region and Irmo third, however... Irmo has the x-factor of always being there in the end due to Coach Savitz abailty to prepare and teach his kids. And with the way that DF is playing there is no reason for me to lie to myself about it, so that is why I say they won't make it past the second round. I am just being honest with myself. However, I do think that if they were to get things together they could still make a great run at the state championship because of their talent.

lol...Dont get me wrong i hate irmo. you say they have a weak D but they are still winning, so the D is doing enough PERIOD.

i agree with benp, but since it seems everyone else is doggin on irmo's talent... i guess it just goes to show that talent doesnt win games, its heart, desire, and determination. as bobby bowden said, you gotta have "it"

real sc is right. once a goal is scored on irmo the floodgates will open. nothing against irmo players but when things aren't going their way, they tend to whine and complain at each other. one goal could be a deciding factor.

Anyone want to second Tigerman's opinion that Dutch Fork is the most talented team in the state? Possibly someone with no ties to the program?

As far as telling everyone Dutch Fork will not do well, I didn't say you have to lie to yourself, when ben lippen plays poorly, I don't turn around and say i don't expect them to do well. I simply say "hopefully they'll bounce back." My point is I would hate to be your brother and read everything negative about our performance and our future performance.

if df were "the most talented team in the state" they would also be the most talented in their region....as it stands now, they are THIRD in their own region...what does that tell you?

Talent isn't going to mean much if they cannot put it all together on the field. Games aren't won on paper, they are won on the field as is often said.

All three of those teams are good. I still think that in the end it will be SV that goes to the finals, but Irmo is starting to look more dangerous and well, they're Irmo. DF is talented and can make it there as well, even if they are not playing up to expectation.

I will say that with regards to 4A overall, I like the fact that there are several teams in each division (Upperstate and Lowerstate) that have a good shot at making the finals.

I agree with you, I'd take a win over having the most talent just as I would take luck over skill. The question about the defense was asking who was the most talented if I remember correctly. So I simply told you my opinion.

I agree with many of your points. Irmo and SV both have a significant amount of seniors. DF may just be to young to take it this year but, I'm not counting them out just yet. I believe that the winner of the State Championship will come from Region 5. Whoever the team may be.

You couldn't be more correct. Irmo has players that are spectacular...when the ball is bouncing their way. There are many things that can cause Irmo to lose their heads. With the rarity of getting a bad ref (I believe we all know who schedules that affair) they are thrown off of their game.
--If the winner of the State title doesnt come from Region 5, or the lowerstate I will be suprised. I think this year's playoffs will be remembered for some time. We'll see what they have in store for us come May.

The winner of Region 5 will be decided on Friday when Irmo travels to Spring Valley, I think both teams will bring their best, and I think it will be one of the most exciting games this year, BenP you comin?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion realsc, but I think it will be a huge upset if Northwestern doesn't win state. Having seen all the region 5 teams play, along with lexington, south aiken, northwestern, and fort mill. Northwestern is 2 goals better than everyone else. I don't believe they will win state by 2 goals, I'm just saying they are that much better.
