i have a question... pendleton is trying to get a girls team.... are 7th and 8th grade girls allowed to play varsity soccer if thats the only girls soccer program allowed?
To be able to play varsity soccer you must be in the 9th grade or older. This, to my understanding, applies to soccer, basketball and football, because they are contact sports. Good luck with your program.
i know that you have to be in the 9th grade or older to play varsity but what if your school only offers a varsity girls team and theres girl's in the 7th and 8th grade that wants to play... are they allowed to?
No...They must be in the 9th grade. 7th and 8th girls going againist 12th grade girls would not be a pretty site. I realize some 7th and 8th girls would compete fine but the vast majority of the girls are not physically big enough to compete and would get hurt.
Maybe Pendleton can do the JV Girls for the 10th down and place the 11th and 12th graders on the boys team until they get enough girls to do both. I know I was very impressed by a female on the boys team that play a Defensive back. She gave the Chapin boys all they could handle, which made me smile on the inside. I only wished the chapin parents hadn't been so abusive towards her just because she was a girl.
America is the greatest Country on earth, when women in at a small school like Pendleton can have its own women's soccer team. Most country's that have been around a lot longer than the US is still struggling with equal rights.
Kimi is one in a long line of girls that has played for Pendleton. Her experience and ability to play was a big asset to the success we had last season. Kimi is a very good defender and while the verbal abuse she received from both opponents and their fans is unfortunate, Kimi seemed to use it as motivation to perform that much better. I am excited about the step we are taking to form the girls team. It is a great opportunity for not only Kimi, but the other female athletes at Pendleton. She will be missed from the boys team, but should be a terrific leader for the girls team.
