Southside High school is having a preseason tournament with teams that aren't at the J.L. Mann, Mauldin, Greenville level. It would be a good experience for the girls team in year one. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks Coach Mohr. Do you know who the coach will be? I'm interested in meeting him before the season starts.

Chapindad --
I know I'm coming in a bit late to this thread, but I was taken aback yesterday reading the following from your post above:
"I only wished the chapin parents hadn't been so abusive towards her just because she was a girl."
I don't know that I've ever been at a game where parents were abusive to a player because of their sex, and I've seen soccer in every conceivable corner of SC. Wow. Why would this happen?

I have seen it several times, especially when my daughter was younger and played on the coed rec teams.
The parents where making a of very offensive remarks tomards the one female player that was standing toe to toe with the chapin boys. I can't remember all the exact quotes and she probably never heard any of them but I felt bad when parents act in this fashion. The sad part was that it was mostly women that where yelling the remarks.
I will add this point that the chapin boys played and treated her like a soccer player regardless of the sex. And my daughter has played againist a lot of the chapin boys in scrimmages and they show the upmost respect for the girls and treat them like any other soccer player. So I am delighted to know that the attitude from some of the parents doesn't rub off onto the chilren.
Of course none of this should be that much of a surprise to you. I have been critized before because of my views of equal opportunities for women players, I guess I just old fashion. I could go on and on about this subject.
Why is it that a woman that speaks her mind is opionated and a man that speaks his mind is plain spoken?
Why is it that they seem to have a pep rally for all the men's sports at the drop of the hat but never the women's sports?
Why is it that the girls are expected to go to the men's games but the boys have to much to do to go to a women's game?
Why is it the women have their soccer championship on a weekday during the day and the men get Saturday?
I would give you answers to these questions but then I would be accused of stirring things up and there is to many young people reading this board.

Thanks for the elaboration. I still find this hard (or too ugly) to want to believe it.

KiMi --
I'm not surprised that players would say unkind things to you during a game -- afterall, you are doing your best to beat them, and it sounds like you frequently do so. I've been on enough sidelines and talked with enough players to know that vulgar comments of all sorts are frequently exchanged on the field.
That parents would specifically harass you in public for being a female playing on the field with males is a real throwback to the kind of racism I grew up with as a child and adolescent, when blacks were not allowed to do many of the things whites did or at least not together in the same places. I'm certainly sorry to hear that this kind of attitude is still around among some parents but your approach (show 'em and keep on lauging all the way to victory) is a very healthy one. I would hope that more reasonable parents would tell the intolerant cretins who yell sexist things at you that that kind of comment is out of line and to shut up. Best of luck this year in all that you do.

I found the female parents to be the worst. Basically jeers and laughs when their boy beat the girl or tackled her. Laughs by boys on field when they were able to have some measure of success. I would think that higher advanced levels of play would have higher levels of thinking and not stoop to such a level.
