As you might have heard, the North/South game for this year has been cancelled due to a funding problem.

I am asking players this question......
if the North/South was held in a much scaled down fashion until a new title sponsor can be found(possibly a one day event- morning training session and an evening game) AND all you received was a t-shirt and/or certificate AND you possibly had to wear the jersey of your school (north= light, south=dark) AND if you wanted to stay in a hotel, you would have to pay for it yourself....

if selected to the team, would you still come?

Any reason to play is good enough for me. This is a tradition that I don't think should be broken over the minimal cost of a hotel room. I'm willing to improvise...that is, of course, if I am selected.

I recognize that you asked the players this question, but as a parent, I am very disappointed in the cancellation. I think that any daughter who earns the honor probably has parents who have invested a lot of time (and money) in their child and are willing to do more. If funding is a problem, approach Bob Inglis. His daughter plays soccer. In the Upstate, there are parents at Eastside, Riverside, and Mauldin who would be willing to donate.

Soccer is supposed to be on the upswing and yet this seems to indicate otherwise. Why are the counties, towns, and clubs investing in more fields? Where are the corporate (Adidas, Michelin, BMW, Fluor, Milliken, Bowater) sponsors? Wouldn't Furman (Clemson, USC Upstate) be willing to showcase South Carolina talent, invite coaches to their facility?

I found out about this tonight. I was very shocked and i feel so bad for the seniors. I was able to attend the North-South game when my brother participated in it. It was such an honor that he recieved. This year as i understand the kids that would have been honored dont even get that. They dont get the satisfaction of knowing that they were picked. After my brother recieved his award and i saw how much fun he had, that was one thing that i wanted to work for. If it stays as it is now, unless they get another sponsor, one of the best things this state does for its' highschool soccer players will end.

I would like to know the reason that Home Depot pulled out.

If my daughter were selected, I would certainly pay. I am seeking another sponsor. I need to know who is responsible currently for putting this thing on. Who handles and accounts for the funds spent?

This is such a ROTTEN thing for the soccer players. Having a senior myself, this is an honor. As my daughter said, "Well, first the WUSA and now this...we are always getting ---- on!" In this instance I have to agree.

Why can't each school cover the cost of their 1-2 players? Surely the booster clubs can come up with some money? If not, I am sure like Olander, the parents would be glad to donate.

I want to know why Home Depot pulled out as well, because I don't think I am shopping there anymore! Let's put our mouths and our wallets to work. This should not be over, because this FAT LADY hasn't even started singing yet!

As a family, we'd pay! And, would contribute to any "team fund" to send anyone selected.

Let's keep it going in some form; much more difficult to restart than continue!

Lowes has better quality and selection at similar pricing!

I'd help pay regardless if we had someone selected or not. Is it too late?

Our family doesn't have anyone eligible to participate, but we are certainly willing to contribute to a local fund to allow girls to participate in this important event. To deny senior players this opportunity would be disappointing, to them and to those who have supported them through the years.

I'm coming into this late, so forgive me if I am suggesting something that has already been attempted. Has anyone tried to widen the network by publishing an article in The State, The Courier & Post, The Greenville News, or The Charlotte Observer (few examples) about the situation? Surely some company in SC - big or small - would find the marketing opportunity appealing.

I'm going to email Home Depot to express my disappointment. Perhaps if they get enough of those types of correspondences, they may reconsider.
