Coaches- I just received the following email from the Dutch Fork athletic director: quote: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > Coach Lea:
Dutch Fork Girls Soccer team will not be able to participate in the Viking Cup Feb. 16-19th due to a High School League violation. We are sorry for this inconvenience and look forward to seeing you next year!
Thanks, Bill Kimrey Athletic Director
Susan Williams Dutch Fork Athletics 732-8055 Ext. 116 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>
I spoke with the DF assistant AD, and he confirmed that it was a SCHSL sanction that caused this - not a simple voluntary withdrawal on the part of DF. They fully understand the problems that will result and were upset about the entire scenario.
As near as I can tell, Bracket C must be terribly jinxed! This is our third such occurrence, which, I believe, matches the total of all Viking Cups over the last 15 years combined!!!
Bottom line - I desperately want to fill the slot, but my waiting list of known interested schools has expired. I need your help - if anyone knows of a quality program that would possibly be interested in filling the slot vacated by DF, please email me contact (preferably both emails and phones) information immediately. Dutch Fork has paid that school's entry fee, so the tournament will be FREE to that school.
Again, please respond immediately. Tomorrow after lunch, I will begin re-contacting schools whose coaches wanted to attend but were prevented from attending by either districts or athletic directors.
Thanks for any help you can provide in remedying this inconvenience.
Steve Lea

"A SCHSL sanction that caused this - not a simple voluntary withdrawal on the part of DF".
Doesn't seem to be enough of an explanation here...what's the severity of the matter? Did DF simply schedule too many games?

Is Summerville "in" or "out"?

Has any school replaced Dutch Fork at this point?

Looking at the schedules, it appears that Hartsville has replaced Dutch Fork in the Viking Cup.

The bracket schedules are on the Spring Valley high school site, at http://www2.richland2.org/svh/, "Sports", and "Soccer, Girls". Bracket C still has Dutch Fork listed. Looking at the Eurosport schedule for their original first-round opponent (Brookland-Cayce), I noticed that B-C's first match is now with Hartsville.
