lpaf - Goose Creek HS. Actually, 10 showed for day two. My daughter felt like crying. A 4A school that has maybe six players that have ever TOUCHED a ball, not to mention that only two have played classic or above. Only wish we had year-round Premier or a tournament team. The boy's side had no less than thirty with an actual JV being a possibility.

The creek has tended to fall out on the "have nots" side of the HS girls soccer equation for a while, but I think you're a gator or two short of a functional squad. Interestingly, Stratford hasn't seemed to have the numbers problem over the years. Different demographic? Good luck.

I will indeed be more focused on JI than WA this year. I have a 15yo 10th grade step daughter who should make the team. The 14yo 8th grader is playing club ball for CUSC again.

lpaf, glad to hear they are both playing. Sorry I won't see you at a challenge league game this spring, my daughter's team jumped states.
How deep is JI's JV going to be?

The rumor I'm hearing is that there will not be a girls JV team for James Island.

That really surprises me, since JI has a tradition of building a state championship style team each year.
Has the World Cup memories started to fade so much that girls are losing interest in soccer?

Girls soccer is alive and well on James Island with no discernable drop in interest that I can see. Graduating a dozen senior players in 2005 has created more available slots for 9th and 10th graders who might have played at the JV level otherwise. That notwithstanding, the choice to remain on a classic club team rather than get funneled into a JV program has always been a valid option for the better players. No change here.

You're right. It doesn't have to be a choice. But why stop at two teams for a talented 7th or 8th grader? Why not do arena soccer, too? Or work out with the WUSA when and if they come back? I personally have found that my daughters do well playing for one good team at a time. That has seemed to meet their needs and has produced some pretty good athletes along the way. ODP is a sideline activity and doesn't figure in as far as I'm concerned.

You're right, you run the risk of burnout with some girls so you have to be careful. But the entire U-13 and U-14 teams? Surely some girls "can't get enough"?

That makes me feel a lot better. As long as they are playing, I don't care where and who...
