I'd be interested to know which 1st Round match-ups, in any of the divisions, people think might be interesting or competitive.

I think the Airport/Myrtle Beach 1st round match will be very interesting. Of the teams they've played in common, Airport has tied and beaten Emerald (whereas Myrtle Beach lost to Emerald in PKs), Airport has beaten Ben Lippen (whereas Myrtle Beach lost to Ben Lippen) and both teams have beaten BC. Recently Airport has also had a good win over Chapin (in PKs) and a very close loss to Dreher, whereas Myrtle Beach has won 10 out of their last 11 games by a total of 47-1. It'll be interesting to see if the competitive games that Airport has fought through recently will help them in their battle on Monday down at Myrtle Beach. I'm pulling for Airport.

Does anyone else know of any interesting 1st round match-ups?

W&E --

That's a culture clash for sure. I hear players have been trampled to death in that tunnel leading to the Gaffney pitch. Please tell me the game is in Lexington.

I also think the Dreher/Socastee 1st round match at Socastee will be interesting. They have no opponents in common. Socastee has won 9 out of the 12 games on their schedule against unranked opponents (taking out 2 losses to #2 Myrtle Beach, and one aberration loss to St. James 1-0 on 3/8) by a total of 25-2, whereas Dreher has struggled mightily against the likes of BC, Chapin, Airport, AC Flora to an around .500 record. Go Dreher. They will have to play well to win.

Home or away, Gaffanites (?) make any stadium their own.

Dreher has struggled against BC and Chapin; 0-4. They're 4-0 vs Airport and ACF. They've lost to the teams you would expect - Lexington, and other 4A schools they've played. They've lost some you would not expect - Heathwood, Hammond, Ben Lippen, but those are rated SCISA teams. The losses to Chapin remain the ones that are tough to rationalize. Dreher outplayed them twice, and lost twice. I think that Dreher is looking forward to playing CHS in the playoffs Friday.

They'll be alright at Socastee as long as they keep Socastee's offense away from the goalie. The best way to do that - keep the ball at their offensive end. Dreher has done that well this year, even in their losses (exception - latest loss to BC).

Well i just want to congratulate the Gaffney girls. I played there and my sister played for the girls and I honestly never thought i would see the day both boys and girls teams were in the playoffs. Good luck to both against Lex.

Dreher Dad,

I think Dreher would be foolish to look "forward" to playing anyone in the playoffs other than Socastee.

sbs, you must just be looking at the scores of St. James and Socastee's games and figured the loss was an aberration. There are players who played in those games, which I am sure that you did not watch, who come on this board and do not need you downplaying the accomplishments of their season. Those scores do not tell you just how close alot of the games played by both teams were. I hardly consider a 1-0 loss an aberration when Socastee only won 2-0 in a hard fought second game. Believe it or not, almost all of the beach area teams are very even. What puts Socastee over North Myrtle, Carolina Forest, and St. James is their outstanding keeper. Whereas Myrtle Beach is in a league of it's own. Airport may have a hard time tonight.
Dreher will get one, and only one rebound from Socastee's keeper all game long. If they do not capitalize on that rebound they will not win. She misses very few straight up shots. She is who will win the game for Socastee if they beat Dreher.
Good Luck to all the girls who made the playoffs.
