Unfortunately emotions are a prerquisite for state playoff games...
I only got to see the second half and the OT. All lex parents I spoke with said that Dorman was all over Lex in the first half. Lex definetely dominated the second and OT.
The referee appeared to let the teams decide the game in the second half and then mysteriously called everything in the OT (many questionable). I happened to know the center ref, and he has always done a good job. I would be curious to understand what he saw.
In any case, the player of the match for me was the Dorman girl that scored the goal. A pretty header to the far post. But not because of the goal.
The truth is that,in my opinion, she single handedly put Dorman in the finals because of one play in OT. The play was a classic counter in which lex was able to get the ball to midfield quickly. The ball was then passed on forward to a diagonal running Ms. Maupin who caught the defender flat. She flew towards the goal with the defender in hot pursuit. As the keeper came out, she "gave" the far post for what would be an easy tap in, as Ms. Maupin adjusted her body for placing the ball in the corner, the defender cleanly slid and tackled the ball for a corner.
Lex scores and the game is over, Dorman defender takes Maupin down and the game is over. The play was the play of the match for the time I was there.
