I think it is up to the school district. I know some school districts are restricting JV to 7th and 8th graders for all contact sports such as soccer. They can have a JV team for HS players but only HS players can be on it. They can also only play like squads.
in lexington district 2 jv is limited to 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th graders only. varsity is for high school grades 9th-12th. i think that juniors should either be cut or 2nd string if they srent good enough to play varsity.
this just came from a previous post where i asked if there was a rule about that. swansea varsity primarily consists of juniors ans seniors but we already had a jv schedule made and we just have enough for two teams and maybe 2-3 bench players a team. i was just asking because it would be inevitable that i would get pushed down to help out with a few games because his selection is limited due to the high number of seniors.
It is up to the Athletic Ditrectiors of each classification to decide who can and cannot play JV. At this point AAAA is the only classification that allows juniors to play JV soccer.
In 2A and 1A juniors are not allowed to play jv. SCISA falls under different rules so I do not know about them. Last year we played a SCISA team with 6th graders on it, so I imagine juniors could play as well.
