how they getting better? They won one state title. Last year they won one and went to the finals in 2 others. Please qualify your statement chief!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Valid point, lower. The CSC U13s would have made the finals in 2004 as U12 also, had some player transfer requests not been rejected that spring by the CSC board (these 2 players were big contributers to the championship season this year). If that had happened, it means the results this year could be viewed as worse than last year.

That being said, CSC HAS improved it's coaching staff and will be improving in that arena. GO CSC.

irmo4now, please explain how csc improved their coaching staff? chris christian, who recently won a state championship, is not listed as their coach for next year. in his place, they have inserted the newberry college assistant coach. if this is percieved to be an upgrade, you will be shocked! there are other changes to the staff with respect to teams/trainers. who have they added - wayne quinlan??

Look at the list again; Chris still coaches at CSC - U17 Girls and Academy. And he will still be involved with the U13 Boys, I'm sure. I was talking about the staff as a whole. Some of those changes were added in the past 2 years. It is an upward trend. Savitz, Frederick, Pinasco. Need I go on?

The discussion was that they have gotten better since this time last year. If I am not mistaken, Pinasco is the only person out of the three that came on board after last year. I just dont understand why Corsby and Christian are not working with what are the "flagship" teams of the club. A premier team is going to be trained by a college coach who will have conflicts with making training and matches during the fall season? I do know that the fall season does not mean as much, but I felt you would want some cohesion as much as possible. just my take on the situation

Tryouts for U13 & U14 Players and the Academy Camp for U9 thru U12 players will be held Monday, May 9, Tuesday, May 10 and Thursday May 12.

Dutch Fork and Irmo High School Boys Varsity Teams will be playing for the Lower State Championship on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 at Irmo. Many of our CSC club family and coaches are on both of these teams. Because of this game, we will not have tryouts or Camp on Wednesday, May 11.

The 3rd day of Tryouts will now be Thursday, May 12.

In response to Lowerstate questions re: "how is CSC getting better with only one state title?"--the fact is that the overal talent at the club as a whole has improved despite "only" one title. "Only" one is directly attributable to CESA and their tremendous showing at the state cups and they are to be congratulated on those results. On the boys side, all CSC teams who competed at the Challenge level were state semifinalist(only the 12s who were second in classic cup and the 14s where there was not a team fielded were the teams not at the challenge level).The 18s and the 11s joined the 13s as finalist--the 18s lost to CESA in a great final in the fall and the 11s lost to CESA(sound familiar to the the rest of the state finalists out there)in the spring. On the girls side, I believe all but one of the teams made it to semis and even though none were finalist, many of the teams were competitive in their matches.
In regards to "improvements in the coaching staff",Eddie Crosby, as DOC has put together a fine staff over the last three years. His addition this year of the coach of Newberry as the coach of his state championship team is evidence of Eddie's confidence in him as a coach. The addition of Coach Berson as well as his assistant Bert Molinari in the "pool" of coaches has not been noted either and this is a great addition to the club. If I am not mistaken, I believe that Coach Berson had previously been a coach with Necsa. Also, Coach Darlington of Ridge View who has children in the Rec program at CSC has been added to the coach "pool". Lower state also noted the addition of Coach Quinlan (albeit in a possible derogatory fashion) but all Coach Q has done this week is take a very young Dutch Fork team to the Lower State finals. I know, we are not to talk about high school on this "club soccer" forum but I have to add the fact that nearly all of the DF and Irmo players (Sani from Irmo being an exception from the key players) are CSC kids.
All in all, the energy level/attitudes/coaching at the club from a parents standpoint is much improved in the six years my children have been involved on both the girls and boys side.
CESA and the success of their club this year is certainly something to admire and hopefully that success has urged other clubs to improve as well. I certainly feel that CSC has made steps in the right direction as a club and I hope that trend continues. As Shrink Rap said in the opening of this thread--"Great club,Great coaches,Great facilities, Great time--hope this makes for Great kids."

This info from Leto's Newberry bio indicates just a little about him. CASL and New River are excellent soccer clubs:
'A native of Kampala, Uganda, Alibaruho attended Virginia Tech from 1993 to 1997 and played three years for the Hokies. With Alibaruho on the field the Hokies won the Atlantic 10 title in 1997 and were ranked as high as 14th nationally on the way to setting new records for the soccer program. Alibaruho was elected First Team All-Atlantic 10 in 1997 and named Virginia Tech’s defensive MVP in 1996 and 1997. In 2003 Alibaruho served as the assistant coach for the CASL U16 Premier boys’ team. Alibaruho also volunteered with CASL’s inner city soccer program. Prior to his arrival in Raleigh Alibaruho coached in Virginia with the New River United Soccer Club where he coached the ‘88 Rapids boys’ team for four years.'
