I don't disagree with you, but as someone who like to plan and schedule things, all I can say is that maybe SCYSA had its hands tied on the dates of state cup for whatever reason. I really don't know.

On you second point, no, you are correct. a state championship doesn't necessarily get you into a top flight, but you have to start somewhere and winning a state championship is usually enough to get you into a major tournament where you can build upon your sucess. An opposite viewpoint is that if you don't get the state championship or the Premier league, it makes it that much harder to get to the top flight. One thing builds upon another.

Is SCYSA holding firm to the dates that these challenge state cup games must be played? I can remember, about three years ago, a St. Giles U-18G team leaving Greenville on a Friday afternoon and playing Discoveries in a first-round state cup match in Rock Hill that night. Then the St. Giles families all hopped in their cars and headed up to Raleigh for that weekend's CASL Shootout.

Can't SCYSA extend the same courtesy again?

CornerFlag: You have a great point on the planning and scheduling. I just wonder why the SCYSA isn't attempting to provide alternatives. I seem to remember hearing of Thursday games [as Hurst66 notes] as well.

Yes, several teams re-scheduled their 1st round games to attend Raleigh 2 years ago. That was not a problem then.

In what seems to happen way too infrequently, there is consensus on this board. The question is: what can be done by SCYSA (or whomever) to remedy the situation at hand.

Well maybe this year is rather unique: The Nov. calendar has Nov. 6 as season end, Nov. 12 - First Round, Nov. 19 - Clemson/Carolina game, Nov. 26 - weekend of Thanksgiving. You can't push 1st round into Dec. So maybe SCYSA could not even consider any tournament dates. But again, a reschedule of a first round game should be OK.
For those also interested, Dec. 3 is final round date and also an SAT testing day.

SCYSA has never had consideration for "regular soccer folks". They couldn't care less for the USC/Clemson game (a part of SC culture), big regional tournaments (of which very few teams compete in -- so much for the club 'exposure' argument by high paying clubs), and the fact that soccer could be played during the weeknights as well (e.g. high school).

I've read with interest this thread and felt compelled to throw in my $.02!!!

Talon: Between RIIIPL games, tournaments, and even practices, I've heard it's hard to watch soccer without bumping into a college coach for some of these teams...

Bear: Did you guys ask the SCYSA for a weekday match so you could attend CASL?

Chico - again, how many teams are doing this? what coaches? who's getting offered if any (if so, by whom)?
