Fair point gvlsoccerdad. However, I was trying to use some type of statistic that most people were aware of as it has been publicized on this board the names/clubs of the players who were selected for region pool/team. My point was not to compare cesa and other clubs in terms of odp participation/success. To be more clear, my point was that most people attribute cesa's success to having superior talent to that of the other clubs. I was disagreeing with this. As I stated, the talent pool is certainly larger, but I recognize that there are numerous quality players from around the state who are not a part of that club.
Since you brought up odp, I will take issue with your point. For the most part, the odp teams do consist of the best players from our state. Sure, there are a few very good players in some age groups who choose not to participate in the program. But, again, by and large the best players are out there.

shearer, while i may not know everything about the odp program, i do respect it for what it is. certainly not everyone has enjoyed the same success or has had the same experience. but, that doesn't make it a "joke." as for the paying to play theory, i have seen many kids get cut from the program, and i am quite positive that they weren't cut due to financial hardship. furthermore, the shot taken at lander's coach is ridiculous and false. sure, there is a foreign contingency represented on the roster. what is your point? so, according to you, the odp program is a joke because van taylor doesn't recruit american players, they wear score, and there are fees? that's a joke.

prettyricky... On the contrary, I was wondering what has happened with the team. They only lost one starter from their 4th place team last year. and is essentialy the same as the one that played R3PL. I am not questioning the coaching I am wondering why they have fallen when I believe they should be in top 4 of the division. Since I have no involvement with the group, I was looking for some information.

futbol, understood. whatever the case, they are in great hands with coach hiller. if there is a chance for the season to change for the better, he can certainly get it done.

Shearer, It has Happened!! Finally, after all our spirited discussions about club ball and your constant drunken tirades berating me for my belief in the Cola. area merger.........We (me and you) finally agree on a topic........that is that SC ODP is not what it purports to be. Super Y has a much better system of selecting their ODP teams. Even though my child has never tried out, I have attended SCODP tryouts, practices and games and is it most evident that SCODP is not comprised of all the best players in the state. To be sure, there are some top players, but not the majority. You must first have some ability, then cash, then some political inside, then maybe have a son or two of the coaches, then be willing to split time with many mediocre players. It is too costly for what you get out of it, and in most instances does not further your college profile.

striker, i am assuming you were aiming that at me. again, i am not the spokesman for the odp program. but, i do have a problem with the coaches' sons comment. who are you referring to? i know of only two players who were selected last year and whose fathers are involved in the program. do you not think they would have made the teams regardless of their parents' involvement? that is crazy. those two kids are very good players. also, if you haven't been to the super y process, how do you know it is better? doesn't the odp program have scholarships - why all of this talk about having to have cash to play?

Striker, I will agree with you that it does cost too much. There has to be ways to offset this.

The ODP topic is a sensitive issue and probably deserves to be another thread. That being said, let me get my two cents worth. Overall, like a few have said, ODP does not contain the best players in the state. A few are, but not the majority. ODP seems to more be used for a way for kids to get exposure when they are not on a R3PL team or a state champion. In many peoples eyes, ODP exposure does not hold the weight of a championship team nor a R3PL team, therefore, in my view that is why many of the CESA kids are not on it. The added time and cost of ODP become less valuable when the player is on a better team with more exposure.

Gentlemen... I kind of liked the fact that this thread was for state cup.... I suggest that an alternate thread for ODP be started...
Super Y ODP selection process is done by evaluations of players in their normal habitat - games against quality competition. Once you go to camp, I do not know the selection process.
I also have lots of opinions on ODP SCYSA type, which I will reserve for later. Including funding difficulties.
