I agree with you marco. I think in many respects it's served as an elitist avenue and money-maker rather than serve it's intended purpose. Just another flaw in youth soccer IMO.

I just don't see how van taylor selects his collegiate team has anything to do with the odp program.

I think it speaks volumes of what Van Taylor thinks of S.C. youth talent that he doesn't have more of the ODP kids at Lander. I think that by turning to foreigners he's basically saying that the S.C. kids are no good. From my observation, his history has been to recruit Irish, English, etc. and not the S.C. player unless they're from Greenwood (Emerald/Greenwood HS). I just went to their website and found only news from 2004, not even this year. Geesh!

I know this is changing the subject a bit, but Taylor isn't the only college coach that does that. USC Aiken men's team is always loaded with guys from overseas, especially Trinidad. I do know for a fact that there are plenty of players in this state that are a lot better. Is there a clause or a glitch somewhere that gives colleges more money for overseas players? It would be different if these players actually made these teams significantly better, but I do not see this as being the case.

Super Y ODP selection process, to the best of my knowledge, is handled by the coaches on the sidelines via feedback.

There are only 5 players selected from the Diadora club to the ODP camp (in the U13 and 14 age groups), whether they are coaches favorites I do not know. By the way, I believe they are all Ga players. Super Y ODP selections 2005
I am in noone's bandwagon, I have experienced Super Y play and found it to be high level. Where there miscues and problems, absolutely. players without passes, Was US Club Soccer slow in providing? yes. Where the players registered? yes. Was there anyone playing under false pass? I cannot answer this as I would not be privy to information that would confirm the statement, my guess would be no as the penalties would be harsh. Did other clubs have this problem? yes.

So reputation is not exceptional, but it is the second full year of existance. It is the only program in SC and beggars can't be choosers.

Lastly the thread subject is State Cup, which will be held in Greenville CESA complexes without any volunteers from the CESA organization... Which means that SCYSA will be somehow handling all the ancillary duties in hosting a tournament (with no people).... Based on previous threads, we did not trust them in handling the scheduling efficiently can we trust them handling this tournament?

Pet peeve of mine.... If a state school is receiving state assistance which provides funding to operate and thus frees up monies for scholarships, one would think that there would be a requirement to have a certain number of players from either the state or at least the US.

I am more interested in eductaing our people than someone else's. Lundy has found that using Sc players can win games, Berson is now following as well. Maybe the tide is changing...

Since no progress is ever made in this old ODP discussion, lets get back to the thread topic-
The State Cup. Maybe some progress can be made there. 1st Round is 2 weeks from Sat. Any favorites?
