Why would U.S. youth soccer spend the time and effort training players that can't qualify to play on the National team. As stated earlier the purpose of ODP is to develop talent to play on the U.S. National team. Seems like non U.S. citizens would be taking spots from U.S. players trying to develop and play at the highest level?
I happened to find this blurp on the SCYSA State Select Team/ODP Web Site and cut it out for your enjoyment!
Who is eligible? You must be a U.S. citizen and meet the age requirement for the established age groups in order to participate in the ODP (if citizenship eligibility requirements can be met by the date of the next international event that a player can participate in, that player may try out for the ODP).
You know what sweet, you are right. I guess we will call Adu up and tell him that he can not play for the National Team because he was not a citizen when he did ODP and Regional team stuff. I guess he will have to go play with the Ghana National Team now.
are you kidding me? I guess 16 games started is still trying to crack the line up. He did complain about not starting enough. But by your logic, he would never have been on the youth national teams because he would have thought he never would have a shot at the national team. Then Ghana would have cap tied him as soon as they could thus preventing him from playing for the US one day. Well thought out there bud.
Was Tomek a US citizen when he first started with ODP. I could have sworn I heard that he was not brought into a national team camp because he had not been granted citizenship. I could be wrong. Can someone clarify?
Dog-- F.Y.I Tomek is not a U.S. citizen, born in Poland raised in Canada and S.C. ,Tomek has Canadian citizenship, and plays for their U-20 National team.
you seem to know alittle. did tomek participate in ODP? I was just wondering. is there a reason why he chose to play for canada? seems like his possibilities could have eventually been to play for any of the 3 (eventually)
