Big Mike,
Football is a tough, brutal, full contact sport, but if you hit someone after the play is over you get flagged.
Northside is over, RIP. Lou is a good man and an excellent trainer, albeit one who made some mistakes. Let he without sin cast the first stone.
Nothing is gained at this point by dogging someone, particularly publicly and anonymously. So let it go...
Sounds of WZ....

All Warren Zevon references are allowed on this board. He is the patron saint of scsoccer.com
(I actually heard "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner" on the radio last week!)

Who have I dogged in this. I raised this issue because I did not think Lou was getting any credit. Thanks for clearing up my officiating concerns though, but I still don't get what illegal touching or athletic movements mean. Can you help me out with that? Did you ref the Super Bowl?
Hurst, as far as the history of the rhinos it looks like they are going backwards.11's- finalist in OT. 12's- smashed in the semis. 13's- we will see.
I like Roland too. Great song.

Hurst,
Trying not to make it a habit. But this is my adopted home state and there are some interesting things going on.
In consolidation good? Hmmmm I don't know. The aforementioned Bridge team has 1 viable competitor in SC. NC....has probably 5-6 legit teams that would beat or seriously challenge Bridge.
If competition is the engine that fuels improvement, how can CESA or Bridge hope to get better regionally unless they get another couple of Clubs to step up and challenge them? Tournaments will only take you so far. League play is where its at, at least for this age.
Playing up works this year.....but what about next? If Bridge wants to qualify for Regional Premier league play at U14, they'll need to qualify as U13's, right?
The ultimate goal would be.....how do you get at U11-14.....4-5 teams to compete at the level of Bridge/CESA.

Increase the penetration rate of soccer into our youth, in particular with respect to underserved markets.
From memory, NC has approximately double SC's population and has a higher percentage of 5-18 year old children playing soccer.
The mission of developing and promoting soccer to our youth has to be taken seriously by South Carolina clubs.

Big Mike,
I may have misunderstood your comments, if so sorry. I thought you were cracking on Lou, who is a pretty good friend of mine.
Again, sorry....

Chico,
NC had 88 kids in the west and an equal number in the east trying out for their '93 ODP team.
My understanding....is that there were 24 boys trying out for SC ODP.
Twice the population perhaps.....why 4 times the players?

NC has been better oragnized in the past. SC is doing better and w/ the college coaches coming on board you wiil see more kids playing ODP IMO.

I don't view this from the tip of the pyramid; I always view our elite programs from the base.
The last time I looked, SC had a population of 4,147,152 (age 5-18: 771,370); NC had a population of 8,407,248 (age 5-18: 1,488,083). However, SC had 18,976 registered players with the SCYSA. NC had 54,391 players registered with the NCYSA. Thus the penetration rate of SC is 2.46% among those aged 5-18; NC's penetration rate is 3.66%. Thus NC had a 50% advantage on penetration rate even excluding population. Thus, you'd expect more than 2X players -- and in the case of soccer, I believe that there are critical mass issues in which once you get one kid to play the kid who is friends with that kid wants to play.
SC clubs as a whole are doing an abysmal job of developing and promoting the sport. We're not going to have as many great elite players as we could until we have a strong foundation of many, many more recreation players.
Is it all doom and gloom? Well, the CRSA/CESA announcement was a welcome step forward given that the partnership is about going after underserved markets. Until more SCYSA clubs get serious and begin spending money and more importantly effort on reaching underserved kids, we're not going to see a big step up with regard to any of this.

Isn't the CRSA/CESA "agreement" illegal? I mean per NECSA right?
