I'm also curious about the CESA/CRSA partnership. Since this announcement came after the November date of the NECSA letter to SCYSA and concerns a club that is located in the correct part of the state, will the partnership still happen?

I honestly don't have a clue. But as a total guess, I'd be amazed if the SCYSA declared a partnership among clubs for the primary purpose of reaching underserved kids illegal. After all, the SCYSA mission statement reads:

The purpose of SCYSA is to develop, promote, and administer the game of soccer among players under the age of 19 years.

Then again, I thought that was what was going on with the original CESA announcement.

But excluding all of that, here's what to look for in your club -- ask them what their spending is on financial assistance. Aim for a minimum of 5% of revenue.

Chico,

Don't waste your time dazzling Big Daddy with numbers. He gave up on SC a couple of years ago. NC is where the action is. Why bother trying to tackle CESA when you can set your sights on the real Big Dog (CASL)? As he said...five or six teams in the Tarheel state that wouldn't have a problem taking on Bridge Red.

Hurst66: Once again, I'm clueless as to a lot of things -- in particular U12-U13 boys soccer -- but in RIIIPL-East play last year, the team my daughter played on beat the NC state champions (CASL) and another NC RIIIPL-East team -- and while the games weren't blowouts they weren't nailbiters either. Alas, they did lose to Greensboro [who won the 2005 Region III championship]; but my guess would be that they wouldn't if they played them a second time.

GSA was much stronger than any NC team.

Never gave up on SC. But as a coach you do whats best for your team and as a parent you do whats right for your kid.

When we were U9-10 there was virtually no one to play in SC. St Giles was all in house at that time, as I guess were the Mount Pleasant's and Summervilles. No legit league, few teams to play friendlies with. Charlotte, by contrast, had a dynamite league.

If you want to develop the state....you need competitive leagues. And the CESA's of the world need to support them. Therein lies the connundrum. Bridge and CESA do whats right for their kids, but it impacts kids elsewhere in the state by denying them the ability to compete against the best. Because of this, the talent pool never builds and ultimately the super teams are hurt by a lack of in-state competition.

I agree with Chico's numbers and conclusions and am hopeful that SC offers an option to us in the future.

Big Daddy is right. You guys got 2 1/2 more years to figure it out.....or he and his posse are gonna come back down here and fix it for you!

Once those boys reach 9th grade....look out CESA and Bridge FA.

(PS - The FA in Bridge stands for "Far Away" to us folks up here in York County....as in it's OK to send our kids to CESA....but it's too Far Away to send them to Bridge.)

;>) Just a little humor for what has been a fairly tense day (see girls forum) on the boards.

I'm confused; how does what Bridge and CESA are doing deny other children the ability to compete against the best?

Chico,

Please see my post on why the SC state U-12 boys league sucked this year. Belligerent can help.

One point to make, is that I have noticed that the counties in NC promote soccer as an economic power is NC. The counties actually have pointers on their web sites to the local clubs and tournaments.

In the mid-state the counties see the clubs as competition and not as an economic partner.

I am not saying this is the only reason for the lack of penetration but is a factor at least in the mid-state.

Chico,

There are certainly individual teams in SC that can compete with anyone regionally or nationally.
'93 Bridge, for example.

But to your point on numbers.....there are 2, maybe 3 teams in SC that could compete successfully in the top division of NC Classic for the '93's. There are 8-10 doing so in NC.

Teams like Bridge and CESA can play with anyone. But what happens after that? Greenville is big enough there should be 2 really good teams...same with Charleston area. Columbia ought to have a couple of good teams. Myrtle Beach area....Aiken ought to have a good team. York County....

Instead, the cupboard is so bare that teams have to play up to get competition.
