Regarding inconsistencies, let me try to clear them up.

Soccer can be played at all levels: rec, classic, challenge, premier. Rec and classic soccer are best kept local...but as kids start moving up the ladder they need to be placed in appropriate levels of competition.

In a state like SC which is sparsely populated, relatively speaking, this might mean in some areas that you need to offer a consolidated team. A partnership approach....2 or more CLubs pool their resources to allow their top players the chance to compete successfully. Now, sometimes this might mean a merger like St Giles-GFC. Sometimes it might mean more of a hybrid CLub such as Bridge. Whichever model you choose is fine, the end result is the same.

I believe in that and fully support it.

But....I think the consolidation needs to go ground floor up. Start with local Clubs either merging or partnering and then if it needs to go further thats fine.

The only issue I had with CESA was that they were moving into the Midlands before the Midlands got the chance to consolidate themselves. CSC-NECSA is a great first step.

Now, would that have happened without the threat of CESA moving into the area....yeah, you could be right. But all in all I would prefer local consolidation first, then district, then inter-district.

Now, is that clear? At least as mud?

Big Daddy: Sigh. Okay, now you've drawn me in one more time. From what I understand, you are correct about CSC is not setting up a satellite club. What they are doing are training teams consisting of 100%, or almost 100%, York County players in York County with coaches from York County.

This is precisely what CESA was trying to do; no more, no less. It was attempting to train teams consisting of 100%, or almost 100%, Columbia-area players in the Columbia area with coaches from the Columbia area.

You keep trying to differentiate one from the other -- why? You don't have to worry about the decision interpretation: since CSC is unbound by SCYSA decisions it has full rights to do this unless the SCYSA were to refuse to sign inter-state transfer forms (as per USYSA rule 201.)

Now...the more I look at this...the more I wonder why the SCYSA is allowing teams of players to transfer to another state based on the logic of their decision.

Dig Teddy,

That's like saying a town doesn't need a Wal-Mart(for example) because the two mom and pop dollar stores should merge and that would be the same thing. Not even close.

"CSC still has to digest its recent merger/affiliation which has opened up the availibility of some beautiful foelds in theRock Hill area. You will see some tournament/Super T games on these fields."

First of all, don't put words in my mouth. I never said conspiracy. I said agenda.

Secondly, you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. If there is any validity to this post above then there is without a doubt some sort of partnership going on here where negotiations were made. The same partnerships that you so vehemently disagree with. You can get back on here and argue about this but it is the spirit of some sort of partnership. CSC may not be overtly competing with Tega Cay or Discoveries but they are in fact taking players from that area and potentially using facilities. Whether or not they were going to use these fields at Manchester with or without Northside I guess we will never know will we.

It looks like the Rock Hill situation has worked for you, but you don't want this to happen in Columbia.

BD, Answer this question honestly. You said as a parent living in Columbia you would not welcome CESA. If your kid was not getting what he needed from the existing clubs in Columbia wouldn't you want an option such as CESA that has proven itself in your area. You are not getting what you want in Rock Hill so you can just hop 15 minutes across state lines to Charlotte. Why do these arbitrary lines dictate that a kid must travel an hour and a half to Grenville.

That's all boys. I'm tired of this game. You ain't going to find me round here no more. Rockafella...

Whats different is that CESA would have been developing players to compete against Midlands Clubs.

CSC isn't developing York County kids to play against Tega Cay or Discoveries. Other than the DSC Mutiny in RP league play.....their competitve paths don't cross. Perhaps once a year there may be 1 age group that bumps up agasint someone at a tournament. Hasn't happened yet in the 2005-2006 season. Maybe once or twice all of last year.

At least in my mind, thats a big difference. The effected Clubs aren't competitors.

Nastradamus/Big Daddy/Everyone: I want to thank you sincerely for this dialogue. I honestly didn't understand how the SCYSA decision was revelant to Northside/CSC until I read and participated in this. I know it took me a long time (told you I wasn't smart) but I finally get it.

Holy cow. It's not the partnership clause that is in question -- that's what threw me. By the logic of their decision defining the inter-district 50% rule, to be consistent the SCYSA would have to deny rule 201 transfers to other states if they are going to play on teams consisting of 50% or more players from one SC district.

I'm stunned.

Big Daddy: As you note, the clubs are competitors in RIIIPL-East. They might meet in tournaments.

At the same time, you have not a clue (nor do I) what teams would have been trained by CESA -- what leagues they'd have been in -- nada.

I think CESA has excellent grounds here for inconsistent policy application -- and while the SCYSA might not care, I think that the USSF just might.

Chico,

Again, CSC didn't move into York County. They were approached by Northside about absorbing their teams. Nothing has changed as a result of this.

No coaches from rival clubs hired, no advertising in the local papers.

Yes, I can understand how if you try to force a parallel, you can. I will give you that.
