No joking....there is an angle on this whole thing in which I've been wrong.
Part of my distate had to do with the belief that right or wrong, CESA was violating the state 50% rule as it relates to districts. After Chico's challenges...I went back and read the by-laws and rules and the only reference I could find to the 50% rule in SCYSA by-laws says that an SCYSA team needs to have at least 50% SC residents.
There is nothing explicitly referencing the 50% rule appling to district residency, only state residency. The district residency is an interpretation specific to the CESA-COLA situation.
From this perspective this seems to me to be a pretty weak interpretation.
So I still believe in local consolidation....and strongly prefer it. I can name off a whole bunch of reasons why logically (at least to me) there are better options than this. And after about 72 posts I guess I already have.
But at the end of the day my gut tells me that CESA did nothing wrong, violated no rule and should have been allowed to proceed.
Yikes. Sorry all....but 1 of the first things I said was that rules are meant to maintain order and prevent chaos. If you don't violate a rule...
I still think consolidation should be done locally. But there are no SCYSA rules explicitly related to what was attempted. And the interpretation is a stretch. I didn't realize this.
