I believe Discoveries has 1-2 girls programs. I believe most are playing in Tega Cay. They both need to merge. You could even let one handle the boys program and one handle the girls.

These parents and Board need to wake up. They need to get some advice from someone who knows soccer. With Winthrop in their backyard you should be using them like a sponge.

anyjones,
Isn't an assiatant position at Winthrop tied in with the DOC position at DSC. Teddy and Gabb were, are, assistants at Winthrop and DOC's at DSC.Dom Wren was from Winthrop. The one thing that separates DSC from the other clubs is Winthrop. You could argue you want them to take a bigger role, but they are active with the club.

Nastra,

I agree with you, the Winthrop relationship should be fostered...not severed.

Winthrop + Discoveries + City of Rock Hill + Tega Cay Soccer Club...can we get any synergy out of this?

Looks like a winning formula to me. Take a look at the high school polls, there certainly is some talent in York County.

Your are correct. The DOC was connected to the Goalkeeper Coach Position at WU which was the third assistant. The past three have been outstanding. Gary ? (English guy)was the first, Phil Hindson, and the third Teddy. These along with Gabb were excellent coaches who have all had success and proved it after leaving the Club. They were as good as you could get for full time pay even though it was part time pay. I know that is why Posipanko proposed combining the position with Winthrop several years ago so it could be more full time pay. Some parents in the Club think they know soccer better, so we will see. I am betting they don't.

That is where the relationship stopped concerning WU. The DOC was always his own manwith regard to the Club. Winthrop never had or tried to have any influence on the Club. I know the Gaffer did his best to get them field space, office space, computer, use of copy and FAX machine, meeting space, ect. Many people think Posipanko was calling the shots with the club. I can assure you it was the Board and DOC. He never received a dime or held any position. I also heard Discoveries had the majority vote when hiring the DOCs. Both Posipanko and Dan have the highest coaching licences, so you think they would be used. Heck the Gaffer is the 16th ranked coach in NCAA Div. I. He should know something.

The Club started the Academy program for young players and hired a guy who has no credentials and has been a huge dissapointment. Why wouldn't you use the Winthrop Staff for this type of thing. I am just real upset with Discoveries right now. They are heading down the wrong road. I heard this afternoon, that a new soccer club in the area may be starting up this Spring and early summer. Lets see if they can get it right. Done venting.

anyjones, it seems like you are involved with the club or a parent of a player with the club. Not important, but you are right with what you are saying. I have heard the same the about how good Winthrop has been for the DSC. Getting involved in the rec league with some 700 kids is way over their heads. They need a vetern soccer person, not mom or dad or this clown doing the academy thing. Besides the Winthrop coaches, Dom Wren woul be the person that could be the DOC or head of this Club. I bet they never talked to the Winthrop coaches about playing a leadership roll. Dom does not have the time needed due to teaching/coaching duties. I can tell you the Winthrop have more contacts than anyone else by far. I agree, use them. You people should be soaking up everthing they can do for you.

Is there any truth to this? So, what happens to Enzo and Alex? I always thought they'd end up with Finotti at CESA. I guess that's where they will be next season.

They fired their DOC, Mike Gabb, because he was horrible. He did nothing in the short amount of time he was there. They currently have an interim DOC, Gary Brannan, who has been involved in soccer in the York County are for many years.

I have heard nothing about this recreational league "merger" and do not believe they will do it. DSC is fine as it stands with several great boys programs but 1-2 decent girls programs. I believe they should stay as they are. They are doing well and have been doing well forever. They just need to hire a full time DOC who can contribute to DSC.

Wait a minute, they have a dad as the interim DOC. that is classic.

Secondly, what great boys programs do they have? one by my count, the 15s and they finished third in the state. We must have a different definition of great

Thee was a mutual parting between Mike Gabb and DSC. For months both were not happy with the direction of the Club. I know one thing Gabb wanted to do was merge with Teag Cay which is a
wise thing to do. I also think he was pushed into the whole Academy thing, which turned out to be a disaster with this Efrin guy. I think Mike was for it and wanted the Winthrop Staff to direct it. I have no idea where they are going to get coaches from, unless they use parents, which is going backwards and a big mistake.
They also do not have the money to hire a full-time DOC unless the combine with something else. That is way the departing from Winthrop makes no sense. They had a great deal there. I also think Posipanko and his staff still have a good relationship with DSC, even though Gabb is part of the WU staff. The Gaffer was very smart from the begining not being directly involved with the club as well as his first assistant. He more or less got them what they needed and was never involved in coaching or the day to day
activities of the club. I don't know if he was ever approched about playing an active role, but I doubt he would. Smart thing keeping his distance. DSC also fired some coaches and it is my understanding that some of the coaches will not return next season. If the coaches that are returning decide to go else where, you will also have the players on those teams following. The DSC Board continues to make one mistake after
another. I think the biggest mistake was departing Winthrop. I would really like to know what Posipanko feels about the entire situation.
I think by next Spring you will see a very different DSC Club and also a new Club forming in the area. I heard they are now looking to start in the Spring with this new Club instaed of the Fall.
