Some of the newcomers to SCSOCCER.COM might not know that Troy Lesesne was selected as the 2000-2001 S.C. Player of the Year by Gatorade and was also named the 2000 High School State Player of the Year by NSCAA/adidas.

In his senior year of high school, Lesesne led Brookland-Cayce to the Class 3A Lower State Championship, a 26-2-1 record, and Region 5-3A title. A 2004 December graduate of the College of Charleston, Lesesne wrapped up his prep career played in the 2001 North-South All-Star Game at Mount Pleasant. All told, Lesesne finished as the all-time leading scorer at BCHS with 285 points (99 Goals and 87 Assists). A four-year letterman, Lesesne capped off his final year with a school-record 121 points with program highs of 42 goals and 37 assists.

At Charleston, Lesesne played as a true freshman and then was a three-year starter for the Cougars, which compiled a 47-28-7 (.616) record from 2001-2004. During that span, the CofC posted three-straight winning seasons and culminated that run with a 17-6-1 record this past fall, which included a Southern Conference Tournament Championship and an advancement to the Second Round of the NCAA Men's College Cup. Lesesne was tabbed this past season to the NSCAA All-American Third Team and was a First Team All-Southern Conference selection.

I know I am a bit prejudiced since I have known Troy since his elementary school days. His parents, Bill and Ellen, did a wonderful job with his upbringing, but let me state that I don't know of any other player from the state of South Carolina that has worked harder than Troy at his craft. He truly deserves this opportunity and am quite sure he will do well with the Charleston Battery!
