Just in case some of you haven't heard.... Barcelona's Brazilian forward Ronaldinho has won the Fifa 2004 World Player of the Year award. He edged out Arsenal's Thierry Henry and AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko to the prize. It was surprise to many including myself...many thought the winner would've been Wayne Rooney after his incredible performance in Euro 2004 slightly interrupted by injury during the semifinal game against Portugal.Or even the "runner up" Henry who is currently leading the EPL in goal with a pretty large margin over the ones under him...Not to mention his acceptional performance in Euro 2004.....I think the player taht should have won this award was Chritiano Ronaldo.....BUT...Thats my opinion

Ronaldinho is a great player and is one of the fastest players with some of the quickest feet. He also has other things that help him stand out from the rest.

He's arguably the best player on the best national team in the world, and is without question the reason Barcelona is on top of the Spanish league. He is a very deserving player for this award.

Its hard to compare players to have a single world player of the year because of the different positions. Christiano Ronaldo has some nasty moves, speed, and agility, but his overall game certainly does not nearly contend for the TOP player in the world. Christiano Ronaldo and Ronaldihno would contend for the BEST ONE-v-ONE PLAYER IN THE WORLD, or the BEST AND1 SOCCER PLAYER IN THE WORLD. When combining speed, shot, defense, moves, and mentality, the best players in the world are Roberto Carlos, Steven Gerrard, and Zinedine Zidane.

Roberto Carlos is an awesome player with the nasty left foot shot and right. I dont think there is another player with such a shot like him but i have to say Ronaldihno is still faster with nasty moves. And im not saying Roberto Carlos is bad or anything but Beck or anyone can take a free kick like him.

i don't think Zidane is one of the top players in the world anymore, unfortunately his age has caught up to him. i still love watching him play though. as for roberto carlos, sure he has a heck of a shot, but remember...he's a defender. to be one of the top players in the world, you have to be one of the best at your position. there 4 or 5 other defenders i would put in front of carlos.

who? cause look at robertos speed compared to any other defender and then look at his shot i dont think there is any player all around that has a solid shot and a nasty curve on the ball like roberto.

Zidane might be old, but age still hasnt affected his game. Look at Euro 2004, two goals in stoppage time to beat England. Age hasnt gotten to Zidane yet. What four or five defenders are better than R. Carlos? I cant think of any with better shot. And not anyone can take a free kick like R. Carlos or Becks.

ya'll keep talkin about his shot...he's a defender, he's suppose to stop people from taking shots. as for some better defenders, how about ashley cole, nesta, puyol, john terry...all of whom are better defenders. Real Madrid is a great team, with great players don't get me wrong they're my favorite team, but they're defense gets them into trouble. and when was the last time roberto carlos made a free kick? i'm not sure he ever takes them anymore now that becks is in the line up.
