I wish I could. Believe me, nobody would be more pleased than me if I had to eat humble pie and we won it all and he ended up with the golden boot for the tournament.
But I don't think it will happen. The comment I hear most about him is that "he is better with his feet then you expect for a tall guy".
He scored good goals on Saturday and kudos to him for that.
On the flip side it was only Jamaica. If he can do that against Brazil, Argentina et al I will be impressed.
For me he cannot do anything more than Fowler or Defoe could do except win balls in the air. To win the World Cup you can't play a one-dimensional high ball game like that. I only saw 2 plays against Jamaica where Crouch's height won us anything.
Even if he were a united player I would still advocate against taking him to Germany.

The only drawback against Crouch is that he is too nice of a guy. Really....no killer instinct.

Other than that he has been marvelous (except for the PK that he chipped instead of smacked on Saturday). He is a weapon. He is better than average with his feet. He is great in the air. He's not a bull like the Aussie Viduka but he gets it done. He's England's best option up top right now and that is saying a lot because Owen looked good on Saturday as well.

Paraguay is known for their strong defense and their ability to man-mark players out of the game. Let's see how Crouch fares. I think he will do well.

So are you seriously telling me that given a fit Rooney and a fit Owen, you would still prefer Crouch alongside Rooney????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!

What's your definition of fit? Neither Owen nor Rooney are 100%. You can't ignore Crouch's current body of work.

Rooney and Owen at 100% both start, no question.

Thanks for that. For one minute I thought you were advocating Crouch start over a fit Owen and Rooney. For the purposes of that debate I meant a 100% fit Owen and Rooney.

As an afterthought I would like to have seen a Fowler and Owen partnership and re-unite them in Rooney's absence. Crouch's current body of work is good, but that is not to say that Defoe and Fowler, given the same opportunity, could not have an equally impressive body of work to reflect upon.

I'll give you Defoe..........over Theo Wolcott.
