Anyone care to paraphrase how you can be contracted to the MLS..and not a club?

I think you just did it. The league prepares and signs the contracts, hence, the players are bound to the league, not the club. For a player move or contract change to occur, it's the league that handles that transaction, not the club. This is the cornerstone of MLS's "single entity" system. This was done to lower costs and provide financial stability to the new league. Since MLS players can't auction themselves to the highest bidder, the theory is that the league won't face issues like sky rocketing salaries which doomed the North American Soccer League.

They have now just confirmed that he will have a 2 week trial at the end of November with a view to a move in January if it is a success.

His club coach advised him again Man U and to find another European league/team (Dutch/Ajax/PSV) where they develop young players and he can log some minutes.

Adu's trial is now over. There are no rumours floating around about how it went, with the official angle being that he will know in June if United intend to try and sign him. Sounds a bit stand-offish to me and may indicate it didn't go very well.

Looks like ManU has found their man....for the short-term.
