I think what they said for MPSC is that they'll A/B team the pool when they need it, but otherwise, they'll mix the girls up evenly for the friendlies they'll play around the state. The three different teams that will pool into the Academy team have very different styles, so it will be interesting to see how they all mix when they're really practicing and playing together. I know two of them that I've seen use a lot of the individual "dribble dribble dribble, lose ball...get ball...dribble dribble dribble," which has served them well in LSYSA up to this point, while the third team looks much more passing oriented and will combine two to four passes or dribble as needed.

After they did well at MPSC and Greenville, I'm excited to see how they do when they're really used to 8v8 and working together.

As for cherry-picking a team, I don't see a problem with that. We have a pool of 20 players. The coach picks two teams and they usually play 2 or 3 weeks together then rotate. But if they are going to a strong tournament, I don't see the problem with having a better team in the A division and a weaker team in a lower division (though our coach has not done this).
.

I wouldn't call any of what you described cherry picking. I'm referring to the practice of having the best players move from team to team in the course of league play according to the strength of the opponents.

As for A and B teams, I was referring to A and B teams playing in the same division. One wins everything, the other never wins. Personally, I would prefer to distribute the players.

One more drawback to pool play, is that the kids would seem to lose some of the "team" experience. Still, I think it can be used effectively.

I have not read every single line, but Ibelieve the move to short sided game is a USYSA from USSF requirement. In fact I know many U12 teams play up to make the transition. The bigger ball and bigger field makes a difference.

Bamr, I don't follow this,

This year she is on the 94 Premier (11 v 11) we are playing in the U-13 Classic League this fall.

I am confused by the 94 Premier being in U-13. Aren't 94 teams players with birthdates August 1, 1994 through July 31, 1995? Those do play U-15, right?

Sorry, I just don't understand.
